Border, Church Tower and Biscuits

The following is our view from the kitchen of part of our Spring border – Narcissi, Cyclamen, Tete a Tete, Fritillara and  Muscari, all topped by our comedy and tragedy sculpture.  Later the Clematis plants (just beginning to sprout)  will cover the trellis.

We had a short drive out today, passing by St Day Old Church and we stopped so that I could get a photo of its most unusual tower.

I made us a treat today. We used to call these Swap Shop biscuits as the recipe cam from that children’s programme when our four were little. I adapted the recipe as I didn’t have any Sweet Tea biscuits or Digestives to crush so I smashed up a few trifle sponges and used oats to make up the weight. I added slices of ginger and slivered almonds to the raisins and it is totally delicious! In fact, with all that fruit, the nuts and the oats, it can be considered a healthy treat!!

The Gallery, Snowdrops and A Light Show

I’ve had my day in the gallery, Fannie and Fox, today. In between customers, I managed to foil up some new pieces, two small trees and a Tree of Life. All ready to solder…….

There is a wonderful large piece in the gallery, Snowdrops, by Amanda Richardson.  I love it and its frame.

Tonight we went to see the light show in St Day, the DiaspAURA show. The light projections on the old church were beautiful but impossible to capture with my camera. Here are three small light boxes from inside the roofless Church.

Mary Michell, A Conker and Good Thoughts

On 19th September, our American friends and we were treated to an historical tour of St Day. Part of our walk was to the old Church of St Day and even inside as our historian friend from the village had acquired the key! Inside the Church was a statue that I found very moving. I loved the delicacy of and the expression on her face, the care with which the folds of her dress and waves of her hair were recreated in stone and I looked at her for some time before reading the engraving beneath and discovering that she had died at only eighteen.

I loved this statue to commemorate Mary inside the old Church in St Day

Today Lesley has shared with me the research she has just completed into Mary’s short life. As she said, have your tissues ready. Click on the red link to read the story,  Monument to a lost bride

Remembering Mary

I had a lovely time singing with friends this afternoon. As I parked and began to walk down the lane, a conker fell on my head!

Conker

This came my way the other day and I liked it.
