Looking across to Pendennis Castle
1 We saw Lucy off at the station this morning on the first leg of her journey to Kathmandu. It’s going to be fun following her progress.
2 After singing, I met Mr S near the Gylly Cafe in Falmouth. We had a bracing walk in the winter sunshine, up to Castle Drive and past……
3 ………Castle Beach which is where Mr S put my engagement ring on my finger 45 years ago almost to the day! We had just bought it in an antique shop in Truro and came over to Falmouth on the train.

1 This is my sister and my brothers with our Mum in the garden at Creek Vean, our first home in Cornwall. I was reminded of this photo after yesterday’s conversation about sisters. It was the day of her christening.
2 My older brother sent a delightful email which made me smile.
3 Lucy, our youngest daughter, has been packing all day for her adventure trekking in Nepal. She has also booked her tickets for Senegal to be at Daniel and Ami’s wedding.

2 Made some fabulous soup today with the stock made last week from the chicken, duck and pheasant bones and some Beluga lentils. Delicious!

A miracle (what else can you call it):
the sun rose today at three fourteen

2 Had another enquiry about a wedding, this one a recommendation from a couple whose wedding I did a couple of years ago which is very pleasing.
3 Singing with the Inglehearts. Tonight we rehearsed ‘Here, There and Everywhere’ by the Beatles in an arrangement by Claire and it felt good!

1 We planted 100 snowdrops ‘in the green’ today. What a delight they should be next Spring. It might be snowing today in England but here, in Cornwall, it’s mild and the ground is soft enough to plant in!
2 I’ve spent the whole afternoon reading! “Bad Marriage” by John Tagholm is utterly compelling.
3 Singing Cornish songs with everyone at The Countryman in Piece was, as usual, uplifting and invigorating and it will take me hours to get to sleep!

1 Singing with the Three Choirs in Truro Cathedral was such a lovely experience! The acoustics were amazing and the audience really responsive.

2 Visiting my friend in hospital was good because she was feeling so much better and expects to be allowed home on Monday. (Update -S did go home only to be re-admitted that night and has been in for 6 weeks)
3 Skype with the GrandBabies was lovely as always though Jake was far too busy to stop and talk to us! It’s just fun to be able to see him playing in the background while we talk to KJ. Tabitha clapped with delight when she realised we were there on the screen!

1 I just love Radio 4! Today, we’ve had the delightful David Attenborough on Desert Island Discs, the inimitable Samuel Pepys and his very entertaining Diary and this afternoon, John Steinbeck’s ‘The Pearl’ beautifully dramatised. Tomorrow we are promised Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Private Peaceful’. Brilliant!
2 We shopped in a very busy Redruth this afternoon, beautiful sunshine, a lovely busker and everything we needed. I am so glad we moved back to Cornwall and especially to Redruth! I just love David Kemp’s Tinners’ Hounds!

3 Lucy came home from her trek-training on Dartmoor on Monday with a ready jointed pheasant for us, sent by Brenda with whom she stayed over. I’ve cooked it in cider as Brenda suggested and used Delia Smith’s recipe serving it, as she suggests, with caramelised apples.Lucy took homemade marmalade and Cornish Daffodils.

1 Despite a disastrous start to the day with two burst tyres, singing with the Suitcases and then a lovely lunch with understanding friends helped to recover the day.
2 Seeing Choir-baby Elowyn in her Sally-boots was a great pleasure, especially as they matched her Babygro.

1 A beautiful single Jay turned up on the feeding table this morning, ate seeds, tried the pastry, had some oats and swept off into the fields behind.

2 We had a day out in Truro for Mr S’s birthday – galleries, lunch, shopping and ‘The Descendants’ in the afternoon followed by ….
3 …A roast duck dinner and a new recipe that I’ve been waiting to try out for ages – Chocolate Amaretti Souffles. They were absolutely gorgeous, crisp on top and truly gooey in the middle. Thank you, Nigel Slater!
