Dawn, Sweet Peas and Japanese Anemones

I haven’t been up to see the dawn for a very long time but the family were leaving early for their long drive home so I caught the gorgeous peachy clouds of the morning. The house is now too quiet.

Our Sweet Peas are still gorgeous. I’ve taken a photo today as Cornwall has a yellow weather warning for heavy rain overnight so they may not be as lovely tomorrow.

The Japanese Anemones are lovely too, today.

Sunflowers, Onions and Seedlings

I love the Sunflowers growing alongside the poly tunnel at Roots and the photo of the one my SIL sent yesterday from her garden in Atlanta!

Some time ago, I sowed 8,000 onion seeds at Roots and now here they are. They make up for our own disaster.

Today, I transplanted baby Purple Sprouting Broccoli from the seed trays into modules.

Soup, Topper and Pollinators

We had the most delicious soup for lunch today, Red Pepper soup, brought to us by dear friends.

Red Pepper Soup. Thanks M x

Exercise for Mr S now includes a short walk along our road to the post box where there was a delightful new topper of ice creams and ice lollies.

I’ve been talking with a fellow blogger about the lack of butterflies this summer but we do have some pollinators.

Chocolate Pudding and Crocosmia

After seeing the physio this afternoon and my lovely Mr S being signed off as he is doing so well, I decided we needed a celebratory pudding and as we had some pears that needed eating up, I made Squidgy Chocolate Pear Pudding and it was, indeed, scrumptious.

It’s Crocosmia season and the hedges along the lanes are full of the bright orange variety, Common Montbretia.  We have that all along the top of our Cornish hedge up the side of the garden and in the beds we have a beautiful golden one and a scarlet one.

Gerbe d’Or

Like many of you, I’m sure, I find that the events in the world right now can be overwhelming and in writing my blog, I try to focus on the beautiful things all around us. Today,  a post by Suzy whom I follow,  spoke of the situation in Gaza and I thought you may (or may not) like to read it too. Here it is if you’d like to.

Posy, A Scarecrow and A View

I made a pretty little posy of garden flowers for friends with whom we were going to visit this evening.

One of the villages we went through is having its Scarecrow week. I only managed to get one photo.

The view from their sitting room was most unexpected – St Antony lighthouse.

Beans, Lavender and Poppy

Our Broad Bean crop is looking promising

Our allotment neighbour has a lovely Lavender border., loved by the bees.

This is a self sown Poppy and it is glorious.

Bee, Roses and A Poem

It has been heartening today while working in the garden, to hear the constant buzz of bees. They love the Crinodendron and the perennial Cornflowers.

Our golden roses are opening beautifully.

I can’t remember who sent me this poem, but if it was you, thank you. I love it.

Sailing Boat, Clematis and Iris

While the sopranos were learning their part, I stepped out onto the balcony to catch a picture of a very lovely sailing boat.

Our Nelly Moser this year gets better and better.

The purple  Irises and perennial Cornflowers are looking wonderful in the cottage garden border along with the pink and purple Granny’s Bonnets.

Clematis, Apple Blossom and A Book

We have several Clematis around the garden and they are coming into flower.

Our family apple tree, the one with three different apples grafted onto one stem has blossom on one branch, the Lord Lambourne apples.

Lord Lambourne

A good friend lent us a book last Thursday saying it was a ‘must read.’ My goodness, he was right! I started reading on Friday evening and have done little else since. It is the most compelling read that both made me laugh and hold my breath in fear for the characters. As one of the comments on the back says, everyone should read this novel.

Posy, Stone and Award

Our lovely LiveWire has done the blog for a couple of days so I didn’t mark 14th April as I would have done. Our Dear neighbour Bill Mitchell died eight years ago and I always take a posy to mark the day to Sue-next-door. LiveWire 4 made the pretty bow to tie the posy up.

Sue took some beautiful flowers to his memorial stone  in St Euny Churchyard.

We recently listened to a repeat of a brilliant programme, The Reunion, on BBC Radio 4 all about the people who made the production, The Passion, in Port Talbot fourteen years ago. Bill and Sue, Wildworks,  worked with Michael Sheen to bring this piece to life. The programme will be repeated on Good Friday morning and can also be heard by clicking on the red link.  It’s really well worth listening to. Bill and Michael Sheen won a Best Director award for their remarkable work.

If you missed my blog eight years ago about Bill, click here.
