Sunrise and Paintings

There was more colour in today’s sunrise….

A lovely day today with our eldest daughter who came to help us with a couple of jobs, one being to move our large piece by Tony Foster which has been  on the landing since we bought it in 2021 and not properly seen. Now it’s in the hallway and can be really  appreciated. Each of the little paintings is beautifully detailed and has a pencil description ..

Doves of Peace

I was back at singing this afternoon! Joy! A friend at choir brought in some `Christmas cards to sell,  made by his partner and they are really beautiful. I thought you might like to see his words on the back too.

This is one of four lovely designs.

20% of each card sold will go to ShelterBox

Killigrew, Paper and Weaving Words

We visited Falmouth Art Gallery today where there were two exhibitions, one highlighting their collection and one called Out Of Paper showcasing so many paper creations.
I love the painting in the first exhibition by Unknown Artist of The Killigrew Monument which we had walked past earlier in the morning.

There were some beautiful cut paper sculptures. I love the fact that Secret Garden, when translated into French, ‘Jardin Secret’ refers to your inner soul.

The Paper Yarn piece  really appealed to me and I added my words to be woven in next time the artist pops in.

If you, Dear Reader, are local or maybe visiting Falmouth before the end of January, this is a lovely place to spend a couple of hours.
Just to add, I am remembering my lovely Mum today, on her birthday. As a little girl she was always delighted to think that everyone was celebrating her birthday with a firework display.

A Door, A Roadsign and Mantles

Our old library was falling into disrepair some years ago but along came two young men with a vision and now it is a thriving hub of creativity having been restored in the most sympathetic and beautiful way. Sadly we missed the Grand Opening of The Ladder yesterday but we have been involved in volunteering there in a small way over the last few years and have seen some of the transformation.

Here is another of the creative road signs, one of which I showed you a week or two ago.

Looking up at one of Redruth’s other lovely (if somewhat neglected) buildings while shopping today, I noticed the engravings on the glass – in one window Dresses and in the other, Mantles.

By the River, By the Sea and A Talk

The Penryn River was so beautiful this morning as we gathered  for our weekly sing.

We went for lunch at The Gylly and walked by the sea, such a gloriously bright, sunny and warm (in the sunshine) day.

This evening we went to a fascinating ‘symposium’ where the artist Tony Foster and guests were talking about how his art is seen through the lens of meteorology, mineralogy, environmental science and archaeology, and what insights it can give us into how to use our own fleeting time on earth. I wrote about visiting the exhibition here.  If you put Tony Foster into my search box, you’ll find lots more information about him and his work.

Agapanthus and Protest Boards

We saw these beautiful Agapanthus flowers as we left the hospital on Saturday.

A friend and I popped down to Porthtowan after working at Community Roots this morning and were very impressed by the fifteen  wonderful protest boards which tell such a story. I took a few photos to show you detail and have the first photo from a friend of the whole length of them along the path to the beach. I’ll post them all in sequence at some point when my lovely Mr S and I can  go down to the beach together.

Thanks John.

Exhibition in Truro Museum and Art Gallery

We had a treat today as tomorrow my lovely Mr S goes into hospital for a TKR, total knee replacement, so we’ll be at home for a few weeks as he recovers. I may not post every day over the next few weeks.
The exhibition, Exploring Time, is the work of one of our favourite artists, Tony Foster, who travels from his home in Cornwall to remote places  with his tent, his paper and water colours. He has painted, among other places,  The Grand Canyon, Everest, rain forests, the Galapagos Islands and locally and I love how he adds a tiny map and  little piece of nature to each painting – tubes of sand, a pebble or two, a shell or pressed flowers – truly beautiful work.
If you want to know more, just put his name in my search bar. Enjoy today’s photos. Click on each to expand to read his pencil notes at the bottom of each painting and if you are local, do go along and immerse yourself in these precious reminders of the fragility of this beautiful earth we inhabit.

Grand Canyon

Chapel Porth

Jurassic Coast

Cornish Oak

And this is his tent!

We have one of his Lockdown pieces at home. https://mybeautfulthings.com/2021/10/22/cottage-cygnets-and-meeting-the-artist/

Flowers, Protest and Vixen Head

Another day at Roots and we potted on flowers ready to go out in a week or two. Every 11th row in the acre is pollinators of one sort or another. Today we potted on Zinnia, Cornflowers, Tagetes, Statice and Straw Flowers – what colourful patches they are going to be.

This evening we painted and varnished more protest boards. It won’t be long before they can go into position.

The head of the vixen is looking brilliant.

Exhibition, Auction and The Vixen

Our lovely neighbour told us about an exhibition at Truro Museum in which she has a piece so we went along to have a look.

The pieces are all just a little larger than a post card and have been donated for a fund raising effort. The online auction will start on June 6th.

I thought it was time you saw the Vixen again as she is developing really well.

Nasturtiums, Painting and Bike

At Roots today, there was a lovely pot of Nasturtiums.

I’ve had great fun today with a lovely group of people painting protest boards. When they are in situ, I’ll show you them all.  I painted the top half of one board, water and splashes.

One of the group arrived on this bike – love the slogan.
