Egret, Black Headed Gull and Salad

As the tide went out this morning birds enjoyed the mud flats.

I made a delicious salad last night to go with our salmon, using fresh broad beans lightly steamed, fresh courgette in half moons lightly fried and all tossed in a white wine and olive oil vinaigrette with freshly chopped mint leaves. I love our allotment produce..

Tomato, Shallots and Aliums

We ate our first tomato today and it was delicious! Here it is just before I picked it.

We’ve harvested the shallots and brought them home to cure in the sunshine. We are delighted with the number we have, having thought they were not doing well.

The Drumstick Aliums are loved by all sorts of pollinators, especially bees.

New Bag, Weeding Day at Roots and A Machine

Again, I spent the first couple of hours volunteering at home and made a really beautiful veggie bag out of some offcuts of Laura Ashley material that we had curtains of in our last house.

It was all hands on deck today to get rid of the weeds that have sprung up since the rain this last week. Enjoy the gallery and click on any photo for the caption. I didn’t get into the poly tunnels at all today as after weeding I was pricking out lots more baby brassica plants.

I just love these cauliflower harvesting machines and today we managed to get a photo as we let it into the queue.

Gatekeeper, Harbour and Lights

At the allotment this morning, a Gatekeeper butterfly was enjoying the pollinator border.

I was in Falmouth to sing at the folk club this evening. The water in the harbour near where I parked, was so still and blue and beautiful.

Leaving, in the dark, reflections of lights in the water, the same patch as in the previous photo, caught my eye.

Today’s Posy, Lighthouse and Mussels

We had another poetry and laughter filled visit with our Dear Friend, Ti.  This is today’s posy from our garden which always engages other residents as they identify the flowers and talk about their gardens.

Later, despite the grey day, we went off to Godrevy to see the sea and the lighthouse. We dodged the showers and walked a short way along the board walk from where we spotted the mussels on the rocks.

Tropical Pressure Festival

There was a yellow weather warning for today with thunderstorms and wild winds  forecast but all we had were a few showers and, of course, the show went on.

Here are a few highlights. I wish we could have stayed  til the very end!

Woodpecker and Date Slice

Our occasional visitor called by again today just to partake of peanuts. The photo is a very long shot from the kitchen and you’ll have to look hard to find him!

I’ve made a ‘healthy’ Date and Oat slice today. It’s delicious, of course!

Wild Flowers, Cardoon and Another Cat

One of our neighbours has a really lovely garden of wild flowers.

Several allotments have magnificent cardoons growing.

Cynara cardunculus also called the artichoke thistle

A couple of cats visit the allotment – this time it was the very beautiful Bengal.

The Lady of Shallot, The Love Potion and A Cat

We went to the most glorious exhibition in Falmouth Art Gallery this morning, The Legend of King Arthur, a Pre-Raphaelite Love Story where there were over 60 iconic works of art, some we knew and some new to us – all stunning! If you are in Cornwall, don’t miss this – it’s on until 30th September.

Enjoy these snippets, permission given to use these photos.

On the way back to the car, we loved the cat on the moored rowing boat.

Love the cat here

This post is for a good friend and follower who needs some good cheer from some especially beautiful things.

Dylan Thomas, Roots and A Day Lily

Last week we were in Penzance for the Lit Fest and spotted the following plaque noting the marriage of Dylan Thomas, my favourite poet, to Caitlin on this day in 1937 in this lovely house in Penzance.

Another very pleasing day at Roots. My first two hours were spent at home again making another veg bag and then I joined the lovely Mr S and the other volunteers. I pricked out a tray of Romanesco cauliflower babies the seeds of which I planted only a week ago. My second tray was of swedes which I had not known until last week are also of the brassica family. The growth every week is remarkable. Click on any photo for a larger view and the caption.

We love Day Lilies.
