Raindrops, Clematis and Horse

The pattern of raindrops on the Californian poppy leaves caught the light today.

Our winter flowering and evergreen clematis is flowering now.

We have new neighbours in the field behind our garden – three horses. This one looked up at me as I opened the camera.

Drums and Treen

Now that the dresser has gone, we are discovering treasures not seen for some time or hidden in the clutter. These beautiful African drums belong to our son and are ‘being looked after.’

We love the magic of this little wooden item, candlesticks in their own container.  Treen is a generic name for small handmade functional household objects made of wood.

My Mum loved auctions and bought these candlesticks at one. I think she would be happy that the dresser we have all loved for 60 years is now in the auction house in Truro which she used to visit week after week, finding treasures and ‘yards of books’ amongst which there were sometimes treasures too.  Another family will love the dresser in due course. What history there is in that piece, giving pleasure to people for 400 years!  Time to move on.

Feather, Reds and Kalettes

A lovely white feather floated down in front of us onto the fallen leaves on our walk past the churchyard this afternoon.

Towards the end of our walk we passed the lovely red tree that has been the slowest to turn.

We had our first kalettes of the season this evening, freshly picked from the allotment. I steam them in their washing water in  garlicky butter and they are very delicious.

Whitebred Shorthorn

There are some beautiful, white, fluffy rare cattle on the cliffs at Godrevy, the Pendeen herd of Whitebred Shorthorns. This one posed for me a couple of days ago.

Purple, White and An Angel

The Hebe in our Suffragette garden is in flower and the lovely white cyclamen that are planted underneath are also looking lovely.

I have completed one of the three angels for L using her own bits of jewellery. I’m really pleased with this one – I like the way the colours go together.

Walk, Waves and A Jay

Daughter No 1 came to visit for the day which was a real treat! Despite the mizzle we walked along the cliffs at Godrevy where the lighthouse (just right of centre in the first photo) was all but invisible in the low cloud and the waves crashed against the rocks so that we could scarcely hear each other speak.

A jay visited our garden today, a most unusual visitor, picking up the seeds from under the bird feeder. We couldn’t get a better shot but you can see just the characteristic flash of blue.

Kindness, Stickers and A Sign

It’s World Kindness day. My thoughts are, be kind every day………

In the car park today, these stickers caught my eye. The owner spotted me taking the photo and came back to extol the wonders of cold water swimming. She almost made it sound attractive to me!

Our favourite coffee shop, Home Ground, has shelves of book and invites customers to read a little while having their coffee. If you like what you read, you can buy the book for £1. Today, they had delightful new markers for the table, book covers, given  after you have placed your order, and Catch 22 was ours.

Sunbeam, Leaves and Eden at Cop26

Our choice for breakfast with friends this morning was the Gylly Cafe in Falmouth. The skies were a bit grey with occasional sunbeams lighting bits of the sea but we had a lovely time as always catching up, laughing and putting the world to rights – if only we could!  Breakfast was delicious too.

Walking back through the park after breakfast, these enormous neon leaves caught our attention.

Our lovely neighbour has been in Glasgow with the Eden Project’s stand at COP 26. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Car, Squirrel and Boxes

This lovely old car was in the supermarket car park.

While I was out singing this morning, the lovely Mr S took some photos of our regular squirrel visitor as he knows how much I love watching its antics trying to get at the bird seed.

A few years ago, a young man in Cornwall started the Cornwall Christmas Box scheme. He had the idea to collect together in a box, all the items needed for a Christmas dinner for a family in need.  Today we dropped off three boxes of Christmas dinners at the collection point nearest to us.  In 2019,  1171 boxes were donated by the wonderful people of Cornwall and last year the number was 3254!  This year the need will be even greater.

One Leaf, Many Leaves and A Welsh dresser

Just one leaf on this tree has turned and the others are not far behind.

Further along our walk, along Lovers’ Lane, the leaves were crunchy and delightful to walk through.

We are selling our beautiful Welsh dresser. We want something lighter and lower. The auction house tell us that it is from the time of George lll, an C18 piece but that it is worth little, sadly. It is however a piece full of the richness of memories for all four of us siblings and even our friends who knew it from our parents’ home.
