Choir-Babies, Tree and Trelissick

1 There were two beautiful choir babies with us today at The Suitcases singing session and it was a delight to watch them playing together (even if a bit of a distraction!)

2 This afternoon we went from thick fog at home to bright sunshine at Trelissick Gardens and saw this fascinating slice from a tree that was planted in 1840!

3 There were three special treats at Trelissick today – the terrace in front of the house has been opened to the public and the view down to the Carrick Roads will be wonderful on a clear day.

The Magnolia Denudata was absolutely stunning. The flowers are creamy white and perfect, not a hint of browning yet and the buds are furry and gorgeous! It was also the Daffodil Exhibition, well over a hundred different varieties on show in the old stables. It pleased me to see that one of the horses kept there was named Sally!

Tube Announcement, Cornish Daffodils and A Song

1 A young friend of mine heard this at Victoria tube station in London the other day –

‘Hello you shiny, happy, lovely Friday people, welcome aboard the Soul Train! Have a wonderful day!’

What a brilliant way to bring smiles to people’s faces on their morning commute. Happiness indeed!

2 These gorgeous Cornish daffodils bring smiles to us whenever we go into the kitchen. I love the reflection in the shiny surface too.

3 It was so good to be back at singing after being ill. We sang several of my favourites tonight including the wonderful ‘Oxygen” which you can listen to here. It was written by our own Choir leader, Claire Ingleheart, for the Suffragette play, ‘Oxygen’ performed last year here in Cornwall and all along the route of the Suffragette March from Lands End to London. Reading, Flowers and A Colourful Duck

1 T loves the little chair that, 40 years ago, belonged to our eldest and chose a small book from my cookery shelves to read this morning.

2 This beautiful Hellebore was in a neighbour’s garden and today we have sun! It was remarkable shining through the deep purple.

3 We all met for lunch at Miss Peapod’s today and there were Cornish daffodils for sale. I bought some for KJ to take home tomorrow to remind her of these lovely few days in Cornwall.

4 This afternoon, while T and her Mum slept the afternoon away, still suffering with the virus, we went off to Mylor, one of our favourite places (of which more tomorrow) This Mallard’s colours were beautifully lit up by the sun.

Farewell, Choir Babies and A Field of Gold

1 Today was Larissa’s last singing session with us before she and her family leave for Glasgow. It was a super morning with singing, dancing and cake and a beautiful piece of art for L from all the choir, painted by one of our members, local artist Jo Short.

2 Our Choir-babies are a delight to us all and this was also T’s last time with us. We will miss his constant good humour. He has always loved the accordion and made a manful attempt to pick up the heavy case. Choir-baby E is now walking with support.

3 Yesterday I noticed a field full of daffodils near to home and managed to stop today to get a picture. I love this season in Cornwall where there are fields upon fields full of gold.

Daffodils, Scarf and The Harbour at Night (and a Blogger Challenge)

1 The Cornish daffodils I bought the other day have opened and look just beautiful in the sunshine.

2 I had a special request from KJ for a new scarf for J as the one I made before Christmas has gone missing. I used up the wool that I made his sister’s Cat Hat and Cowl from and knitted all last night and this afternoon and got it to the post just in time!

3 We went to the Maritime Museum for a fabulous talk this evening given by Roz Savage about her exploits rowing solo across the oceans. Falmouth Harbour was looking particularly beautiful in the just-dark of the evening.

P.S. I was challenged by Yvonne to use all the favourite words I was given the other day to write a post containing all the words. I can manage a paragraph!

Heffalump was very happy that he had finally reached the attic uttering, ” Fabbydabbydozy” as he entered the enormous well-lit space and started exploring. He was happily fishing around in the ubiquitous clutter, when he found himself suddenly defenestrated. Somewhat discombobulated and out of breath, he looked around to assess the sorry situation. Serendipity! He had landed, rather fragrantly, in the honeysuckle and shaken but unharmed, declared,”Alleluia! Now, how to achieve anabasis?”

Twin Insurance, More Daffodils and Come-to-Good

1 Found the “‘Twins” Insurance Certificate today, taken out on March 22nd 1977 when, at 8 weeks pregnant, I was absolutely certain that I was pregnant with twins but my GP thought I was stupid!

My lovely Mum and Dad bought us this policy as we couldn’t afford it and when our twins were born in September, the money bought us bunk beds for the two older children (one 4 and the other 20 months) and a tumble drier to dry all those nappies! For those much younger than I am, there were no scans then so no-one could be sure (except me!) You can see a photo of my twins at nearly 2 on Feb 28th.

2 We went to Trelissick today to find, by chance, the Cornish Daffodil Exhibition. My regular readers will know how much I love daffodils. Here there were more than I have ever seen before.

3 The Quaker Meeting House at Come-to-Good, near Feock, is a beautiful, peaceful place. The only sound was that of bird song coming through the open door. It’s hard to say what the place does for us but we both love it.

Singing Amy Winehouse, Lucy News from Namche Bazaar and Daffodils

23 Feb

1 Fabulous singing session this morning learning ‘Valerie’ by Amy Winehouse. As the harmonies built up and then the melody came over the top – it was brilliant! And I hadn’t liked it much on first listen. I love the way Claire can do that for us!

2 Came home to find this message from Lucy on Facebook: “Now that was the hardest thing that I have ever done and possibly the hardest thing that I will ever do, I got very sick and nearly didn’t make it, but did and now I’m flying back down the mountains… lots of love to all… Still taking sponsorship…http://fundraise.unicef.org.uk/MyPage/LucyEverestBaseCamp”

We are so proud of her and delighted, that despite being so sick, she made it!

3 There are daffodils in the garden, some open, others just bending their heads ready to burst. There’s a field near Ponsanooth on my way to Penryn that has daffodils all over it and it’s such a delight to round the corner and see them. It’s not commercial growing – they’re just there!
