Calendar, Corn and A Cake

It’s September already and here is this month’s Happiness Calendar for you all.

For lunch today we had just harvested home-grown corn-on-the-cob, very simply with a little salt and butter.

It was the birthday party of our lovely neighbour today and everyone contributed to a potluck birthday tea. I made a Lime and Ginger Cheesecake and decorated it with calendula flowers and beautiful blue borage flowers. You can find the recipe here.

Jump Back Up July

This calendar arrives at just the right moment. I’ve had surgery today to remove a basal cell carcinoma from my hairline and am trying now to bounce back.  We did ask for help and friends came to the rescue especially G to whom we give special thanks.

Happiness Calendar and November Blooms

It was dry but very windy when I took the following photos as Storm Ciaran begins its progress through Cornwall. Please forgive the poor focus on a couple of the pictures.

October, Posy and A Poem

Action for happiness are focussing on optimism this month.

We visited our Dear Friend, Ti, today and took her a garden posy, lots still in bloom as Autumn arrives.

Ti had a book of Mary Oliver poems and we read several which were new to me though I’ve posted several of her poems here before. Here’s one which we all enjoyed this morning.

If I Were by Mary Oliver

There are lots of ways to dance and
to spin, sometimes it just starts my
feet first then my entire body, I am
spinning no one can see it but it is
happening. I am so glad to be alive,
I am so glad to be loving and loved.
Even if I were close to the finish,
even if I were at my final breath, I
would be here to take a stand, bereft
of such astonishments, but for them.

Happiness and Community Roots

It’s August already and here is the Happiness Calendar to encourage us all.

Along with all the usual jobs, today was Scarecrow Making Day. I stuffed a pair of jeans with straw but most of the work was done by the youngsters on site today. It is always special when children of various ages join us – hope for the future. Enjoy the gallery of Scarecrows and harvests.

Giving a goodbye hug

Happiness Calendar, Research and A Poem

It’s July already. The year is racing by. Have a happy and fulfilling month.

We spent a happy couple of hours doing some research in Kresen Kernow, the museum of all Cornish archives.

I found this poem on Facebook some time ago and remembered it today. Here it is for your enjoyment. I hope it’s okay to share it with you here. I had no reply when I asked for permission..

Kindness, Calendar and A Butterfly Bun

I saw this today and liked it.

I’m a bit late with this month’s Happiness Calendar…….  Meaningful May

I’ve made buns this afternoon to be made into Butterfly Buns for a special day tomorrow. I had to finish off two so that we could test whether to use commercial jam or my strawberry jam. My freezer jam it will be!

Dawn, Kindness and Cattle

The lovely Mr S took this photo for me while I was still sleeping this morning.

It’s the first of the month already so here is December’s Action for Happiness calendar, Be Kind to others and to yourself. If you’d like a bigger version go to their site on this link.

On the way home from singing this morning, I joined a queue of traffic, held up by cattle crossing the road on the A393. If you look really closely, you’ll see the back of one of the Jersey cows crossing the road.
