Spring Flowers Appearing

It was so lovely today to  take a walk around the garden between showers and wearing wellies and to spot some signs of Spring. Some flowers were quite rain damaged but here are some Snowdrops and two kinds of Crocus.

Mist, Reflections and A Poem

Driving from Truro to Penryn this morning, the mist was sitting in the valleys.

I love reflections of boats in the river..

I am the Song by Charles Causley is a long time favourite.

Filigree, Gorse and Sun on Water

As we set off to drive to Gylly for a walk, I noticed two tiny filigree leaves stuck to the side of the car.

Walking along Cliff Road, the gorse was a beautiful bright gold.

As we left the sun was lighting up the water in the bay.

Storm, Almanac and A Journal

We are in the middle of a Red, danger to life,  storm warning, winds expected between 80 and 100 mph so we are staying. tucked up indoors. Our supermarket delivery driver rang to say he’d been called back to the store to keep safe. Fortunately, we have enough in so for us that’s not a problem. It may well be for others. We are also hoping that the poly tunnels at Community Roots and at the allotment all stay safe.

We have been buying Lia Leedertz’s Almanac for several years. If you haven’t seen them, have a look. I love that there’s information about skies and stars, tides and a monthly planting guide and I especially like the seasonal song and the recipe.

One of my birthday presents is a very lovely journal, “Thrive Where You Are Planted – A guided journal to help you connect with the natural wonders in your neighbourhood.’ This is such a perfectly chosen gift from someone who knows of my love of the natural and the beautiful. It begins in March as Nature wakes up from its winter sleep and I am really looking forward to recording the wonders all around us. In the meantime, I’m going to read from cover to cover as I do with new cookery books! Thank you, H, a perfect present.

Dawn Sky, Wolf Moon and Family

Wolf Moon at 10pm, wish I could have caught it coming over the horizon.

Another evening with family. What a joy it is to have them all around for such a long time! One daughter left this evening, another family leave in the morning, another in the afternoon but the family from Barcelona will be with us until Tuesday! This has been the best week ever!

Dawn, Colours and Cake

Another beautiful dawn sky, paint charts to choose from and another fabulous birthday cake!

Our morning was spent choosing paint and then starting the job. A couple of weeks ago we had a new window fitted and now the repair plaster is dry, we can begin the re-decoration.

My very dear choir buddy had another birthday party this afternoon and another beautiful cake, this one covered in handmade sugar flowers, absolutely gorgeous.

Fabulous 90th birthday cake made by the very skilled Kathryn

Winter Trees, Puddle and Christmas Lights

After a delicious Christmas lunch at Trennick Mill with our friends, we drove home beside the Truro River and the winter trees stood out against the wintering sky..

Reflected in a puddle

On the Trafalgar roundabout there is a lights model of Truro Cathedral.

Nearly home, we saw a lovely nativity scene in lights.

Tree, Wreath and Sunset Sky

I’ve put up our first decorations, both fabric, both beautiful gifts from family. I hang them each side of the glass in the inner door.

Tree, a gift from family in Warsaw, Poland

Wreath of fabric hearts, a gift from family in Atlanta, USA

Walking home this evening the sky was lovely, gentle pastel colours in the sky behind the Bassett Monument and the castle on Carn Brea.

Singers, Cake and Full Moon

Tenors plus one soprano before the ShelterBox Christmas Concert in Truro Cathedral

Tenors in full voice! Thanks K for the photo.

Cake for tomorrow’s market

I wish I could have caught the Cold Moon near the horizon so that its super moon-ness could have been appreciated.

Raindrops, Rowers and A Shag

I took this shot from the balcony at the Zed Shed in Penryn where we rehearse on Thursdays and realised after taking the shot that I had the camera on the wrong setting – sunrise. I love the effect and have since noticed the spider’s web there too.

Despite the mist and murk, the gig rowers were out practising.

After singing there was a Shag on a buoy.

AND!

to all my readers across the pond!
