Kite, Candle Snuffer and Chocolates

We’ve been sorting out lots of the toys kept for LiveWires and have been deciding where they are all to go now everyone has grown out of them. The kite has been claimed by our son for his twins, LiveWires 5 and 6. It came to us many years ago from family in America and was much loved and well used. I even have the original instructions that came to us in about 1983, such an unusual personalised present that the kids all loved and which gave the whole family lots of fun.

Our old silver candle snuffer is being used every day when the advent candle has burned the day’s date away.

We have an advent calendar that gives us two little truffles each day – a calendar for couples!

P.S. The big storm that is battering Cornwall and much of the UK today has been named Bram.  In Cornish, Bram  means ‘fart’ which has amused many of us as we hear the howling winds.

ShelterBox Concert, Truro Cathedral and River Birds

Just home from singing with my choirs at the ShelterBox Christmas Concert. .I hope some of you managed to follow the livestream.

Truro Cathedral at the end of tonight’s concert

This morning before our rehearsal, I was watching a couple of Swans and then realised there was a Grey Heron nearby and a Curlew. I didn’t identify the smaller birds.

Happiness Calendar, Knitting and Flowers

I have had the loveliest afternoon, first singing where we rehearsed for our part in Thursday evening for the ShelterBox Christmas concert in Truro Cathdral  followed by a couple of hours with a delightful young friend who has asked for help as she learns to knit.

She brought me a very pretty little bunch of flowers as a thank you.

The Christmas concert we were rehearsing for this afternoonwill be livestreamed around the world ,so if you would like to join us, you can register here.

Please do tell me if you register to watch. It would be lovely to know that some of you might be ‘with’ us.

Doves of Peace

I was back at singing this afternoon! Joy! A friend at choir brought in some `Christmas cards to sell,  made by his partner and they are really beautiful. I thought you might like to see his words on the back too.

This is one of four lovely designs.

20% of each card sold will go to ShelterBox

Welcome, Hat and Jolabokaflod

We’ve put up the welcome wreath on the front door just in time.

Our neighbours came round for mince pies, both wearing delightful Christmas hats.

My book from the ShelterBox book club arrived in the post yesterday so I decided to keep it for today, it being Jolabokaflod today (“Jolabokaflod, translating to “Christmas Book Flood,” is a unique and cherished tradition in Iceland, celebrated on Christmas Eve. This tradition involves giving and receiving new books, but its essence lies in the joy of reading them together.)”. We’ve been doing this for the last few years and love it. A lovely Christmas card was included in the package.

The book is The Other Americans by Laila Lalami and I’m about to get stuck into it………

Happy Christmas to all my Dear Readers and especially to my cousins in Australia!

Silver, Mince Pies and Parmesan Stars

We discovered a beautiful little shop today, that has been in Hayle for many years! I’ll show you on Christmas Day what was bought there today.

This afternoon I have made many mince pies for our traditional visit from our neighbours tomorrow afternoon, after the BBC’s  Nine Lessons and Carols on Radio 4.

With the leftovers of pastry, I made lots of parmesan stars, so tasty and tiny that they are nearly all gone already!

Wild Seas, Baubles and Christmas Trees

Our lovely Daughter No 1 has been with us today and we went down to the Blue Bar for lunch. Sadly, there was a power cut just after we arrived so after a wild blow  for a few moments of watching the waves and the sea foam we came home.

Our neighbours have some crazy bell baubles in their tree that are keeping us amused as they are buffeted by the winds.

Last night at the Pavilions there was the annual Christmas tree display , all decorated by local schools and other groups.

Cards, Cake and Singing in the Stable

Not much sowing or planting going on at Community Roots at the moment so we finished off the Christmas cards that will go out with every veggie bag this week.

Today’s cake was a Christmas tree shaped Lemon Drizzle.

This evening we, The Suitcase Singers, have been singing at Cusgarne Manor. Because it was raining the event was moved into the stables which turned out to have wonderful acoustics. Another splendid evening with a wonderful enthusiastic and very generous audience. Tonight we were collecting for ShelterBox and Georgia’s Voice.
