Nursery Washing Line, Lights and A Poem

I loved this washing line outside the nursery that we passed on Thursday, Santa costumes and fairy outfits – just delightful.

We were in Falmouth last night for the funniest show of Christmas, Christmas. Time. by Near-Ta Theatre and the street lights were lovely.

We love our visits to our Dear friend Ti and sharing poems with her. This was one of the ones we all enjoyed today, by Mary Oliver.

Knitting, Thatch and A Poem

I knitted lots of little hats for newborns some time ago but  didn’t deliver them to the hub at our local wool shop as the hospital stopped wanting them. However, now they are needed in Ukraine as are larger ones for bigger children.  The next truck will be leaving Cornwall with various supplies in the new year.

We drove past the thatch again and it is looking splendid. What craftsmen those thatchers are.

I have shared several of Naomi Shihab Nye’s poems before but this one I had missed. It was written in 1952 but is so sadly relevant still.

Trelissick, Singing and Decorations

The Suitcase Singers sang our hearts out in Trelissick Gardens this afternoon with an enthusiastic audience up for joining in and having fun.

Afterwards we went into Trelissick House to see the gorgeous decorations, delightful Christmas trees, one at least in every room,  and some quirky dancers. Click on any photo in the gallery for more detail.

A Decoration and A Poem

Beautiful Christmas tree decoration from Poland

Yesterday was International Human Rights Day and a friend sent me the following poem which moved me to tears.

Summer (’16)
BY RACHEL TZVIA BACK

The cyclamens have a hard time
breathing in July.

The sun ravages them and earth
is too dry.

Still, try remembering March light
and the tight

deep-buried bulbs that somehow
do not die.

2
The children are scattered
like weeds.

The children are scattered dust-colored
dirt-covered

like weeds. Mid-summer grey reigns,
and rain

exists not even in memory, here where children
dressed all

in debris peer out from under slabs of
jagged stones,

bombed homes, mountains or ruined
thrones

they may have climbed, small kings and
queens

of imagined realms, smoothest pebbles
in small palms their

caressed totems and favorite songs as they
would have climbed

here where now they half-buried lie, small bodies
crushed by pitched-black

weight, there they wait, to be pulled out from
under the remains

of broken town, mangled concrete, piled-up stones,
bones, dust clouds and

shrouds, on the children who are
scattered now

across the whole countryside
like weeds.

3
At the edge of another summer.
At the edge of a fallow field.
At the edge of day.

Waiting

For last light of dusk
To call all the children
Home.

A Note from the Editor
Today is International Human Rights Day.

Sprinkle, Supper and Zimtsterne

On our walk today, there was a bright green sprinkle among the brown leaves. The photo doesn’t show the green except right at the edge so you’ll have to use your imagination.

We planned on making Halloumi Peppers for tea tonight but there was no halloumi. We improvised with cheddar mixed with breadcrumbs, mustard and garlic pepper and it was pleasingly tasty.

I made some delicious meringue topped Cinnamon Stars, Zimtsterne, this afternoon and they are truly delicious. The recipe by Jurgen Krauss was one of the 20 Best Recipes in the Observer  a couple of weeks ago.

Morning Sky, Winter Waves and Post Box Topper

Such a beautiful sky as we drew back the curtains….

It was a wild wind so we thought the waves might be big and fun to watch in the harbour in Portreath and they were.

We have a new postbox topper in our street and it is delightful.

We’ve just got back from another delicious pizza night at our local best place ever!

Glass, Eggs and Advent Candle

When I was cutting an angel wing this morning, the wing dropped from the larger glass I was cutting from and landed on its edge! Amazing!  I loved it and its reflection.

The lovely Mr S had fun putting the eggs on the rack today.

I remembered the Advent candle this evening. It has a bit of burning down to do to catch up.

Happiness Calendar, Thatching and Sunset Clouds

It’s the start of another month already!  Here is the Happiness calendar for December and I’ve donethe task for today with this post.  🙂

I was in the direction of the new thatching today so veered off route to get another picture for you. It’s coming along, clearly a long job.  The first photo can be found here.

The clouds at sunset with the tree skeletons in the foreground were quite stunning this evening.

Share Our Autumn Walk

We had a lovely walk in Trelissick gardens this afternoon. Click on any photo for a bigger version.

Colourful leaves in a muddy puddle

Just the best news came through today in a phone call as we were walking around – our 15 year old Granddaughter, LiveWire 1, has just received her visa so can come with the rest of the family to UK for Christmas and New Year!!

Moons, Birds and Flowers

The full Beaver Moon was there high in the pink dawning sky as we drew back the curtains this morning and then again, this evening in the dark – just gorgeous.

It pleased me on our walk today to get the tower of St Euny Church with a lovely blue sky behind and birds on three of the finials.

It was good to see colour in the hedges too.
