Lunch was a delicious spread of salads all picked from the gardens.
The squash harvest is wonderful! This is just half of it. 
I managed to get home this afternoon before the black clouds dropped their load.
I’ve put one of our Dahlias into Mum’s green glass.
To keep the flower in place I have used one of Mum’s old flower holders, very heavy and spiky and made of lead I think. It has the manufacturer’s name on the back. I looked it up and Pollards are, still, florists and hopefully, the same firm. Â I have written to them to see if they can help with dating and the proper name.
For one reason and another, we haven’t been blackberrying yet this year so resolved to go today whatever the weather. Luckily it was a bright and cool Autumn day and there were still lots to be had. The sea on the horizon was truly blue today.
A friend from choir very kindly brought some beautiful apples from her prolific tree to share with us all so I am using those along with our blackberries to make an almost free Blackberry and Apple Crumble.
The pudding was delicious with vanilla ice-cream.

That was a very busy day. First we went to help paint the old Redruth Library which has been abandoned for sometime but is now undergoing change. It is to become a community space for The Writers’ Block, for creativity, for story telling and writing workshops, for drama and performance. A call was put out for volunteers to help paint the first story telling room so off we went. The pictures tell the start of the restoration of this room, preparation and starting to paint. I did work as well as taking photos! Permission was given for all photos to be shared.
Wonderful colour was to be found at the National Dahlia Collection where we went late afternoon.
The best was yet to come. Â We went to St Ives to see the wonderful Peggy Seeger. What a woman she is, still performing at 87, still the fierce feminist and activist. She was supported by her singer songwriter son, Neil and their last song which she said was her goodbye to us all, was her beloved Ewan MacColl’s goodbye to her and his family, “The Joy of Living.” I suspect there were few dry eyes in the house. 
I bought a tea towel from her ‘merch’ table – I already had the other stuff!
Bella Lack is an 18-year-old conservationist and environmental activist. In an article I read about her recently, the following struck me. Part of her message is change your behaviours, but live your life. She said, ” We’re protecting the planet. What we’re really protecting is humanity. And, you know, you’ve got to enjoy it whilst you’re here.”  She’s right!

Just before we started our singing this morning, I spent a few minutes looking along the river.
After singing this beauty came along.
A friend of the choir is getting married at the weekend but we can’t all be there so we sang ‘This Love Will Carry’ for him and his bride. Â It starts with the sops, the altos come in , then the tenors (inc me) and lastly the basses until the whole choir is singing and sending love to the happy couple.
While we were in the Gylly Cafe for a delicious breakfast, lots, and I means lots of people came down to the sea for their cold water dip. You might just be able to spot some of their heads in the water! After our delicious breakfast, we walked along Cliff Road and sat by the sea soaking up the sunshine and listening to the gentle soughing of the waves.
Volunteer Tuesday again and I was delighted to see that seeds I sowed last week are already up and my job today was to prick them out into little modules.
The lovely Mr Smith was part of the harvesting team.
Lunch was super soup made with produce from the garden and served up with joy!
I’ve made marmalade today using frozen oranges, partly because we are running out and also  to free up some space in the freezer.  It’s always very satisfying to make and to have the jars full of golden gorgeousness on the shelves and then on the breakfast table.
There has been a glorious sunset this evening.
The sunset was so very orange, it lit up chimneys across the road.
The Harvest full moon was lovely as it rose over the horizon creating some unusual orangey clouds.
As we were browsing in a delightful independent shop in town and the lovely Mr S was choosing cards, I spotted this book by Neil Gaiman and loved the title. I should have bought it so will be back in town as soon as I can…….
