Wedding, Water Lily and Wet Leaves

I conducted the loveliest Humanist Wedding Ceremony this morning, in a beautiful garden with Cornish mist mizzling and everyone smiling.  It was personal and very moving and made even more special by the fact that a small group from The Suitcase Singers, one of the choirs I sing with, sang a number of most appropriate songs, chosen by the couple and beautifully arranged by our MD, Claire Ingleheart.  Thank you to the singers who helped to make that a very special ceremony for everyone involved.  Photos will follow later.

Two of our number invited us all back for lunch and that was really good too, to unwind with friends over a truly delicious meal and then to have a walk around their lovely and very productive garden. There was a Water Lily just opening on their pond.  (Thank you, P and J, for the rhubarb!)

I love taking photos in the rain! I love how droplets collect and act as little magnifying glasses on the leaves. Do click on the photo and then zoom in – it’s like magic!

A Concert in Trebah Gardens

I mentioned a few days ago that The Suitcase Singers were to do a concert in aid of Dementia Uk in Trebah Gardens tonight. It has been fabulous! The weather was kind to us. The new amphitheatre was amazing with excellent acoustics and there was a brilliant appreciative audience of well over 100. Click on any photo in the gallery for detail and the caption.  Happy days! Thanks to our lovely leader Claire.

Window, Singing and A Poem

1   Getting held up in the traffic on the way to singing in Penryn this morning allowed me to get a photo of this lovely old window in Ponsanooth.

2   L, who moved to Glasgow, visited choir this morning with her lovely boys. We sang the little one to sleep in M’s arms.

3   With all the daffodils that we see as we drive around Cornwall at the moment and that I have been showing you, I thought this poem a good one to share.

To Daffodils

By Robert Herrick

Fair Daffodils, we weep to see
         You haste away so soon;
As yet the early-rising sun
         Has not attain’d his noon.
                        Stay, stay,
                Until the hasting day
                        Has run
                But to the even-song;
And, having pray’d together, we
Will go with you along.
We have short time to stay, as you,
         We have as short a spring;
As quick a growth to meet decay,
         As you, or anything.
                        We die
                As your hours do, and dry
                        Away,
                Like to the summer’s rain;
Or as the pearls of morning’s dew,
Ne’er to be found again.

Singing, Tea-pots and Kindness

1 I went back to sing with The Suitcases this morning, only for an hour but, oh my, it did me good, though I was very tired by the end of the session. It was lovely to be so warmly welcomed back by my singing friends and a delight to see our choir babies again.

2 Outside Miss Peapod’s Cafe we noticed this delightful use of teapots, all beautifully planted.

Party, Anemones and Christmas Tree

1   What a lovely way to spend a day! First singing all our favourites with The Suitcases then off all together for our Christmas lunch which was delightful.

2    These anemones are grown locally and are the first of this season. I love their jewel colours, the fact that they were my Mum’s favourite flowers and that I always put them in a brass bowl that was hers – all seem just right somehow.

3   This afternoon we decorated the tree, very simply this year, just lights and all things red – baubles, boxes and crackers.

Choir-Babies, Baby Brother and Evening Sky

1   Singing this morning with The Suitcase Singers was a wonderful endorphin inducing and spirit lifting event! Not only did we have our resident Choir-baby E but Choir-baby T, his Mum and his baby brother came to visit from Glasgow! Singing was lovely and watching the children interact, a joy.

Singing, Felting and Carol Singing

1   We had three Choir-babies with us today though W is far from being a baby! It is such a delight to have youngsters growing up with singing and then singing with us.

2   Tonight we sang carols in Falmouth finishing at The Poly where there was a craft fair. Just look at this beautiful felted work and pottery done by my lovely friend, N. It was a delightful evening.

100: The Day Our World Changed – The Afternoon at Heligan

The afternoon at The Lost Gardens evoked the Heligan of the past beautifully with the laundry girls washing the sheets and putting them to dry on the lawn, the gardeners working hard in the kitchen garden and suddenly being told of the outbreak of war and that they would be needed. All the time strains of music could be heard from the local bands and our very own singers from Claire’s three choirs, brought together as the Ingleheart 100 for the day. Click on any photo for detail. Thank you to the lovely Mr S for some of the photos.

The next post will show the rest of the afternoon and evening as the tragic events of the war unfold.

Knitting, Sailing and Sunshine

1    What a cracker of a day this has been!  After an early trip to the osteopath, off to singing with The Suitcase Singers where five more wonderful knitters had their pieces finished for me to join to the growing Peace scarf, our contribution to Wool Against Weapons’ 7 mile scarf. I sang and joined and finished just in time for the last song, the very moving ‘Oxygen’, written by our wonderful leader, Claire Ingleheart, to honour our Suffragette sisters. It is 101 years ago today that the first Cornish contingent set off walking from Lands End to London to demand the vote for women. See this post for last year’s event.

2    After that rousing and exhilarating sing, I met the lovely Mr S and we went off for the final three hours of our sailing course and at the end of a truly gruelling session, we have both passed our RYA2! No photos! Too busy!

3   This evening I have laid out our 21 pieces in the evening sunshine in our garden and rolled it all up ready to be collected and taken to Stroud tomorrow. I have marked the end and the beginning with Purple, White and Green ribbons to further honour our Suffraggette sisters with the inscription – “Knit, Natter and Sing Redruth, Cornwall”  Hopefully they will help us to identify our bits of the scarf in photos from 9th August when the seven miles of knitting will be spread out from Aldermaston to Burghfield.
