Election Day, Swans and A Tulip

It’s Election Day here in the UK and my Suffragette Garden, in purple, white and green is doing its bit this morning. I planted it to honour my Great Granny who was a Suffragette and who was force fed in Holloway for her actions to get women the vote.

2    After singing this morning – always uplifting and good for the soul – N,G and I watched a pair of swans on the Penryn River where the tide was nearly out.  They were trying so hard to take off! One nearly made it, leaving the mud but quickly landing back in the water and swimming back round to its mate who hadn’t got airborne. Just look at the mud on the one that hasn’t been back in the water yet!

3    The tulips in the Suffragette Garden are lovely too but I got the timing wrong. The white ones have been and gone and now the purple Parrots are in flower.

Flushing, Lost Jacket and Gyllyngvase Beach

1   I wandered around a favourite village this morning as the lovely Mr S had other things to do. Please take a walk around Flushing with me, enjoying the beautiful things that I found. Click on any photo for a bigger picture and photo details.

2   We then went on to Gyllyngvase for lunch and on the way spotted this lovely little lost jacket hung up on the workmen’s railings.

After another dramatic hailstorm, the sun came out again at Gylly and we had a lovely walk with the sun warm on our backs and then, on returning, warm on our faces. Joy!

Tree Trunk, Love and Goodbye Gig

1   Coming home from town this morning, I walked on the other side of the road to be in the sun, which was warm, and noticed this lovely twisted tree trunk in the midst of the bright green new growth of Crocosmia.

2   These two are often in the tree outside our bedroom window. I like to think that they are a couple much in love! Does anyone know if they do, indeed, mate for life as swans do?

3   The Gig tonight is to say Goodbye to one of our lovely choir members who is off to Glasgow. She will be taking her special Choir-baby, T, with her of course and we will miss them both so much. We’ll also be raising money for Red Nose Day.

Lifted Spirits, Struggling Swans and Fading Beauty

1  For a number of reasons, I was late to singing this morning and as soon as I approached the room and could hear the gorgeous harmonies of “Lo, the Eastern Sages Rise”, one of our glorious carols, my spirits were lifted. Then I joined in and of course, my spirits soared even more along with the music!  Everyone should sing!  I know some of my readers will say, “But I can’t!”   Bear in mind this Zimbabwean proverb –  ‘If you can walk, you can dance and if you can talk, you can sing.’

2   It has been a wild, wild day and these elegant swans were doing their best in the rough water but barely moving.

3    I love the fading beauty of these anemones.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my American readers!

Snowdrops, Shells, Swans and Wigeons

1  Cold and grey here in Redruth so we headed West towards a bit of blue sky and had a brilliant sunny stomp through the dunes and along Porth Kidney. Beautiful snowdrops in the hedgerow where we parked.

2  Collected several little treasures for my ‘washed-up’ collection.

3   In the estuary at Hayle we saw lots of swans and saw Wigeon for the first time. The males are very pretty – grey with a pink breast, orange head and a yellow forehead; the females, rusty brown.
