Mother’s Day

It is Mothering Sunday here in the UK and I have been spoilt! Delicious croissants for breakfast, cards and presents, flowers and phone calls and a walk on the Great Flat Lode investigating some wonderful old industrial architecture (of which more in my next post) Click on any photo for more detail. I wish I could send you smells as well. The gorse smells of honey and the Daphne Odora is just intoxicating and is a scent and a plant that my own lovely Mum loved too.

I repeat here a message that a friend sent out last year and which I found very touching.
“A message of love and compassion to all friends out there on Mother’s Day who do not have their own children, to friends who are estranged from their children or their mothers and to friends who have lost treasured members of their family ... may you find unconditional love in unexpected places and a healthy channel for your own nurturing and creativity to help make the world around you a place where you feel cared for and are seen and known for who you are.” Thank you, Pip.

P.S. Does anyone else find the new posting page infuriating?

1   What a lovely day – cards, flowers and calls for Mother’s Day from our beautiful daughters and Skype with our lovely son and daughter-in-law in Barcelona. I feel very lucky indeed to have such loving people in my life.It has also been a day to remember my own wise and wonderful Mum and all that she taught me.

2   This beautiful Narcissi has bloomed  in the sunshine and showers of the last few days. Please see the P.S.

Mothers’ Day, Nutella Cookies and The Dragon Award

1   It’s Mothers’ Day here in the UK and I have been cheered, as always, by the love and the warmth from my lovely ‘kids’!

I’ve also spent some time, of course,  thinking about my own lovely Mum who died 20 years ago this year which is very hard to believe. She is always here with me in so many ways.  Mum always insisted that she stood 5′ and half an inch tall but in fact she was 4′ 11and a 1/2″!  We sometimes called her MiniMum and there are many occasions when I find MiniMum on my shoulder whispering her wisdoms in my ear.  She was so warm and she was one, who in the words of Thomas Hardy, ‘used to notice’ the beautiful things.  She would have loved my blog…..

2   While here for her birthday, our eldest gave me a recipe for the easiest cookies in the world and they taste good too! I’ve just made a batch of Nutella Cookies and will add them to the cakes I’ve made for Thursday’s Singing Workshop cake-break.

3    I’ve been given The Dragon Award by Marilyn and I’m utterly delighted by that! Thank you so much. In the ensuing conversation, Marilyn said the following about my blog which pleases me greatly  –    “I love your blog. It’s beautiful. Elegant. It’s a friendly place, like visiting a good neighbour who doesn’t lock her kitchen door and always has a pot of coffee on the stove.”
