1 It’s Earth Day today and we recognised the day by planting two new shrubs in our garden, Choisya Ternata which smells lovely and another whose name escapes me at the moment and it’s too dark outside now to go out and read the label!!

2 There’s a new horse in the field behind our house, very beautiful.

3 Sometimes I get such a yen for Marmite! I just had to make some Marmite and Red Onion Scones which are delicious when still a bit warm and with butter on! You can find the recipe and see the photos on my new Food, Recipes and Photos Page. (How can I link that page to this post? Any help out there, please?) The thought of scones was planted in my head by Choc Chip Uru of http://gobakeyourself.wordpress.com/ but I needed the savoury ones this time.

1. Left Dakar at 00.50am, into Lisbon on time but an eight hour delay at Lisbon – but you know me! That gave me hours of uninterrupted reading time! Nearly finished ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – an unforgettable and beautifully written story.

2. Lucy went through immigration ahead of us and by the time we were through, she had all the cases loaded onto a trolley. Brilliant.
3. We were so late back that the Grandbabies were both in bed but Mr Rice made us his signature Spaghetti Carbonara for supper, delicious!

1. After a hectic few days, some resting time. I love the multi-coloured water containers, not kettles as I first thought as they could not stand heat underneath. I’ve brought two home to use for watering window boxes etc!

2. Meals are served in one very big dish for all to share. Should anyone arrive while the family are eating, they will always be invited to join in the meal. Senegalese hospitality is all-embracing.

3. We Skyped home to KJ and family and Jake said ‘ Bonjour’ to Ndeye Marie and ‘You are my cousin!” That was a beautiful moment that was appreciated by all.

1 Such a beautiful warm day today, we had our lunch (home-made Guacamole and Melba toasts) on the bench in the sun for the first time this year. Did some vertical gardening putting primroses into the Cornish wall near the new sun terrace.
2 Had a happy half hour with Daniel on Skype learning more about the quite complicated etiquette of a Senegalese Wedding.
3 I love this egg storage unit which to me is a piece of kitchen art. I think it is a Welsh spoon holder but it keeps our eggs perfectly!

1 I found a lovely old photograph of my little sister and her daughter today (more sorting!)
2 Delicious Roasted Vegetables with grilled Hallomi for supper tonight.
3 Went to see ‘Tin’ by Miracle Theatre, English Touring Opera, and local community choirs, tonight in the new theatre in Heartlands. It was thoroughly entertaining with lots of humour and some lovely music.

1 Came down early this morning to find a little blue-tit on the window feeder and he didn’t fly off as I arrived.
2 I’ve been rearranging lots of our paintings so that we notice them again. We finally hung our three African embroideries in the dining room and they look brilliant, changed the feel of the room in some way.
3 Had our lovely neighbours B&S and two long standing friends, R&R, in for supper – an evening full of warmth and humour – just the thing. The casserole and the cheesecake were enjoyed by all.
