Birthday, Departures and Truro

1   We still had six family people here for Birthday Breakfast which was so lovely – haven’t had offspring here for my birthday for many years.

2    Then it was the big pack up and lots of tearful farewells as some of the family leave for London. Click on any photo for more detail.

3   We spent the rest of the day in Truro, visiting the Cathedral, seeing the Peace Tree and reading the stars, watching the ice-skaters behind the Cathedral and shopping.   D&A are now cooking up a Senegalese feast for dinner and later we are going back to Truro to hear the Cathedral bells ring in the New Year and to see the fireworks.

I wish all my readers a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.

In the bookshop, I saw a One Direction calendar  – discovered just the other day that an ex-pupil of mine, Louis Tomlinson, is one of the crew! He was a lovely boy then!

Birthday Breakfast, Penryn and Potato Crop

1   The lovely Mr S made me my Birthday Breakfast today.  ( I know my birthday was nearly two weeks ago but, truth to tell, I have been unwell since before Christmas and not up to celebrating much at all. Yesterday I felt ‘normal’ for the first time in three weeks. My blog only allows for Beautiful Things! )

Birthday breakfast in our house is Bucks Fizz and croissants with cream cheese and avocado! This was my treat when we lived in Yorkshire and used to drive to York early in the morning on my birthday to have breakfast in Betty’s, a fabulous old fashioned cafe with wonderful food.  We often returned for lunch after a lovely wander around the alleyways of York and a visit to the Minster, to have their famous Rosti for lunch and then bought some of their coffee and a cake or two to take home. Thanks to Freefoto for the photograph.

2   The Clock Tower in Penryn still had some Christmas lights around it and from the car-park , I could see this Church which I think may be St Gluvias Church. I plan to go back to have a good look around sometime.

3   We’re having a birthday dinner tonight too and some of our new potatoes are on the menu. These are more than half of the whole crop……..!

Birthday, Pink Pompoms, Accordion and Reflections (Weekly Photo Challenge)

1   We had the most delightful phone call with J who is 4 today. He sounded so grown-up and listened all the way through Happy Birthday and then told us all about his cake and his Birthday Breakfast of croissants, a family tradition we’ve done for many, many years and which we are delighted is being carried on.

2  This delightful little plant was brought by our friends last night. I have yet to discover what it is but love its little pink pompom flowers.

3  Our choir baby loves it when Claire plays the accordion. We are learning Leonard Cohen’s ‘Dance Me To The End of Love’ and it’s fabulous!  The harmonies are just lovely and the accordion accompaniment, perfect.

4  It was a very cold, still morning and the reflections on the Penryn River quite beautiful. I love how the mist is just hovering above the water.

Thank you to all the lovely bloggers who have given me awards. I will get going with them as soon as I can!
