Another Balaclava, Solar System and Listening

Live-wire T requested a balaclava like her big brother’s and chose some fabulously bright multi-coloured wool. I have been knitting at the speed of light to get it done in time for her trip out to the Maritime Museum in Falmouth this morning. It is yet to have the hearts sewn on but was wearable this morning.

Most of the time at the museum was spent making planets for a hanging solar system each.

I asked Live-wire T to model her balaclava for me when she was listening to One Direction! She was willing to lose the headphones for only a moment!  T is very taken with the fact that I used to teach English to Louis Tomlinson when he was in Year 9.

Ex-Pupil, Mace and Rainbow Yarns

1   It always amuses me when I see this lovely face looking out at me from some merchandise, today, while wandering through the supermarket.  Louis Tomlinson of One Direction was a lovely pupil in my English class many years ago! It’s his birthday tomorrow, so Happy Birthday Louis!

2    We are having a goose this year for Christmas dinner and I collected it this morning. This afternoon I have made the stuffing, leaving it now for the flavours to mingle. It has sausage meat with onion, apple, Armagnac-soaked prunes, sage, cloves and mace all mixed together. My mace is from some brought from Jamaica by my Sister-in-law when she went home a few years ago. I did not know until then that mace is the beautiful outer layer of a nutmeg.

3    I realised today that my favourite wool shop, Knitcraft Wool Shop, will be closing early tomorrow and not re-opening until 29th December when I will be unable to go shopping. The other day, I discovered a beautiful project for my recuperation days that requires yarn in every colour of the rainbow. Here they are:

Birthday, Departures and Truro

1   We still had six family people here for Birthday Breakfast which was so lovely – haven’t had offspring here for my birthday for many years.

2    Then it was the big pack up and lots of tearful farewells as some of the family leave for London. Click on any photo for more detail.

3   We spent the rest of the day in Truro, visiting the Cathedral, seeing the Peace Tree and reading the stars, watching the ice-skaters behind the Cathedral and shopping.   D&A are now cooking up a Senegalese feast for dinner and later we are going back to Truro to hear the Cathedral bells ring in the New Year and to see the fireworks.

I wish all my readers a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.

In the bookshop, I saw a One Direction calendar  – discovered just the other day that an ex-pupil of mine, Louis Tomlinson, is one of the crew! He was a lovely boy then!
