John Lennon, Cartoon and Dark Sky

It is the anniversary of the death/assassination of John Lennon, English singer, songwriter, musician and peace activist – one of the Beatles. I saw The Beatles several times in the ’60s in a very small venue above the Co-op when I (briefly) lived in Doncaster as a teenager. We loved them and this day in 1980 was a very sad one. This lovely photo came my way today.

This is delightful and made me smile.

We went to visit our dear friends today, one of whom is our lovely 102 year old whom you may have read about before. I took her one of my angels from yesterday, the top one if you saw yesterday’s blog. We sang carols and ate mince pies and had a lovely afternoon together.  As we left, the sun had gone down and the sky, very dramatic. I loved the weather vane against the sky. Camera was on the wrong setting hence the fuzz.

Angels, Sketch and Pasta

I made my last two angels for this season today before clearing up the dining room for dining in over Christmas. It has delighted me to get my creative mojo back. I’m loving the seaglass head on the second angel. .

More sorting this afternoon and I came across a sketch of my Dad’s.

Lovely Mozzarella Pasta for tonight’s supper using red lentil penne, so pretty.

Silver, Rose and Quirky Decorations

We are still sorting all the stuff from the Welsh dresser which is awaiting auction. This slender little vase that was once my Granny’s had been very neglected and the silver was black. Now it is shiny and beautiful and now contains our last rose, picked today before the next storm, Burra, arrives tomorrow.

I’m researching what the various marks mean.

Rehearsing with the Ingleheart Singers at the Eco park was fun as always. On the way out some of their quirky decorations amused me.

29th November – Dawn and A Gift

I just found this in my drafts folder! Don’t know how I missed publishing.

The dawn pinks were lovely this morning.

The friend for whom I made the three angels last week brought me some delicious sounding home-made Chutney as a thank you – greatly appreciated, L!  She also brought me some gorgeous Narcissi in bud so I’ll show you those when they have opened.

Humour, Goodness and Glass

I hope this amuses you as it did me. Medieval stonemasons clearly had a great sense of humour.

Be the goodness…..

One of our nephews is a glass artist. We saw some of his remarkable work on one of our visits to Jerome, Arizona.

Autumn Lane, First View and Breakfast

The lanes down towards Mylor, where we were to meet friends for breakfast this morning, were still full of Autumn colour.

The first view of Mylor is always a delightful surprise.

Looking over Mylor Churchyard towards the water on a very cloudy, mizzly day.

My breakfast was scrumptious – Potato Rosti with asparagus, spinach, tomatoes and mushrooms with a poached egg and Hollandaise sauce.

Advent, Happiness and December Blooms

We have an Advent calendar full of chocolates! There are two each day and they are delicious.

It’s time for the next Happiness Calendar – my goodness, the months go by quickly! If you’d like a bigger copy, do go to their website.

There are still a couple of flowers in the garden despite the wind, the rain and the drop in temperature. There was a hoolie blowing as I tried to take these so some are a little wind-blurred!

Narcissi, Mincemeat and Fire

The Narcissi buds opened up overnight. They are gorgeous and there are many more to open yet. I wish you could smell their delicate and inimitable scent.

Thanks, L

I have jarred up all the mincemeat. I’ll make the mince pies in a week or two when it has had time for all the flavours to mingle. I’m hoping there will be enough for next Christmas too.

Storm Arwen brought wild winds, hail and rain here but nothing like the dreadful weather they have had in the North. My heart goes out to those who have had no electricity for four days.  Those with wood burners have described it taking an hour to boil a kettle on the burner. Those without have been/ are extremely cold. We have our fire going tonight for the second time this month.

Happiness, Art and Protest

My choir sang at Krowji Open weekend this afternoon and what a happy bunch of singers we are! It was such a joy to be singing again, with an audience and Christmas carols after missing out last year completely.

In the intervals between singing, we wandered around the exhibitions and I loved the work on this door.

In one of the rooms were these posters of protest which appealed to me too. The artist gave her permission for the ‘Armchair Protest’ to be put on here.I missed her name and hope to find out soon..

Last Slice, Mincemeat and A Poem

Here is the last slice of the delicious Pecan Pie on a very lovely little plate that has, until now, just been on display on the Welsh dresser. Now we are using both of them.

I’ve made our mincemeat for the mincemeat pies for Christmas. I’ve never made it before but don’t really know why not.

A poem for you today shared by Michael Rosen. It is by Benjamin Zephaniah with whom we once had breakfast in Sheffield. The refugee situation and the way our government treats these desperate people, has me in tears.

By Benjamin Zephaniah

One of my readers, Helen, asked if there were any marks underneath the oriental design plate. Yes, these are they. I don’t know the maker. Perhaps someone can help..
