I saw this the other day and liked it and then, just after having breakfast with friends, watched some crows being very busy among the autumn leaves in the park..

Sky Kiss, Beach Walk and Bonfire Party
While I was making breakfast this morning the lovely Mr S saw a sky kiss in the almost blue sky and took this photo for me.
We walked on the beach this afternoon, the beach being almost empty but dozens of surfers in the water. I asked one of them why there were so many here today, were the waves good and he beamed, saying, “The best we’ve had in weeks!”
Bonfire party night at the allotment this evening, soup and bread, a wonderful bonfire and piggybacking on the town display from our advantage point at the top of the allotment plots.

I had a Happy Anniversary message from WordPress. I started my blog 13 years ago!
Swan, Autumn Leaves and Guinea Pigs
After singing this morning there was one swan in the mud where the tidal Penryn river had gone out.
Some of the trees across the river were in lovely autumn colour.
Lots of local people were invited to be guinea pigs as our Buttermarket food hall opened for a trial run. We had a fabulous evening in what will be Cornwall’s only street food kitchens in a properly lovely venue, the renovated and restored Buttermarket in Redruth. The official opening will be next week and we can’t wait to go back. We are so lucky to have this wonderful new venue in Redruth.
Thank you to all of you who sent love and condolences in one form or another today, it’s been good to feel the love.
News, Helpers and Love
What an emotional day this has been – waking to stunning news from America, going for breakfast with lovely friends and coming back to find a message asking me to call the husband of one of my dearest friends. I have lost another friend, a colleague, a sister – a young woman with whom I worked for 15 years, with whom I built the Training School at Hayfield Comprehensive and whom I loved most dearly. We two were a force to be reckoned with.
I have two quotations for you today, one taken from American substack writer Liza Donnelly’s daily email for which I thank her.
“In an interview years ago, Fred Rogers said that when he was a boy, his mother told him that if he was scared, “Look for the helpers. When you see the helpers, you will know that there’s hope.”
We have so many helpers! Become a helper, join them and let them help you figure out what your role could be. This morning, I am getting many messages from friends asking me if I’m okay. These friends are helpers, their comfort is soothing. We are not alone.”
And from my much loved choir leader, more positivity:
Gather your helpers, your people, your community and find hope.
Flowers, Asparagus and Hopes
Next door to Roots is a small company van where beautiful flowers grown on a local specialist farm are bunched up for sale. There are fresh blooms and dried flowers and all of them are gorgeous.
Today a small team of us repotted 144 young asparagus plants. Not long ago they were a miniature forest and now they are nearly ready for their permanent home. My Mum, whose birthday is today, would have loved this whole enterprise.
We are watching events in America with bated breath and hope all turns out well with no bad repercussions…….
Cake and A Poem
I love reading a new recipe that sounds good, making it and finding that it is as delicious as imagined! This is Brownie Banana Bread ready for the volunteers at Community Roots tomorrow.
Eating a slice this evening, I was reminded of a poem we used to share with Ti, Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen. It became one of her favourites. Here is the start of it….
Chimneys, Lichen and A Hitch-hiker
Dark skies this morning and sunbeams lit up the lichen on the ash tree and made the chimneys across the road glow golden.
My time at Roots today was spent potting on the growing asparagus plants. They are doing really well but I forgot to take any photos. As I left, I spotted a tiny snail on my car. I carefully lifted it off and put it in the hedge. (It’s muddy at Roots!)
