Windy Day, Cornish Cream Tea on the Cliffs and A Meal Out

1. Delightful walk along the beach at Perranporth, lots of windsurfers and hangliders and one little chap with his Dad flying a kite.

2. On to Chapelporth for a cream tea. It’s P’s last day and he hasn’t had a cream tea yet so I made scones this morning and packed up a picnic of scones, strawberry freezer jam and Rodda’s Clotted Cream. We bought our teas from the cafe and took our goodies up the cliff walk.

Onion Harvest, Swans and A Full Moon Rising

1   We’ve harvested all the onions and they’re drying out ready to plait up and store.

2   We went to Truro this evening and had a walk by the river before going for a meal. I love this photo of the swans on the  river as they have both just lifted their beaks out of the water and left concentric ripples behind.

3   As we left Bustopher Jones wine bar, the very beautiful full moon was rising in a pale pink twilight sky.

Church Cove, Ann’s Pasties and Story-time

1   We went to The Lizard for what we were told are the best  pasties in Cornwall and went to look for a beach for the children first. We discovered this beautiful cove, disappointingly no sand but a quite breathtakingly beautiful hamlet and cove.

2   We got our pasties from Ann’s Pasties and we were not disappointed! We watched them being made and have never seen pasties so stuffed or tasted such delicious pasties with such lovely crisp pastry.

3   We bought a new book for the children yesterday and read it tonight – ‘Pigs Might Surf’ but the big hit at story-time is still ‘The Great Dog Bottom Swap’ which has all the adults in tears of laughter too!

Please forgive me, dear Readers, for not reading, commenting as I usually do. With family here, there is no time but I will get back to you all soon.

A Gift, Long Tailed Tits and Lunch with My Brother

1   I have woken to find this posting from a lovely ex-student of mine and it has made my day!  He says,” Your philosophy of teaching I would say…x”

2   As I walked round the garden this morning, I became aware that the bird feeder was full of young Long Tailed Tits. I stood absolutely still and watched as they came and went,10 of them in the feeders at one point but I didn’t have my camera! Later, I caught just this one – so beautiful and such an amazing few moments!

3   We met P&V at the beautiful, restored-after-its-fire, Pandora Inn on Restronguet Creek for lunch. When I went to place our order, the bar person said, ‘Sorry, you must have your table number wrong, someone else has just ordered on that number, ‘ and I was able to say, ‘No, that was my brother. He was just ordering too.’  How lovely to be able to say that, my brother is here! He is ordering too! It is so lovely to have him and V here for so long!

We’re out tonight so I’m posting earlier than usual. Happy days everyone!

Lunch Out, Making Bread and Jelly Eggs

1   Pouring with rain today but we went out anyway to Falmouth, got soaking wet and had a lovely lunch at The Gylly Beach cafe. I made the best choice, Cornish Cheese and Cherry Salad – scrumptious!

2    Jake and I made sun-dried tomato and herb bread this afternoon. He became an expert at kneading and the end result was beautiful.

3     We made jelly eggs too. These were great fun and the little people thoroughly enjoyed eating them.

Celebration, Flowers by the Sea and Grandchildren

1   Before everyone else arrives, we took L out for lunch to celebrate her Masters! We went to a fabulous restaurant, The Cove,  overlooking the sea at Maenporth, near Falmouth and ate a very delicious lunch.

2    We all walked along the beach for a bit after our lunch and I found dandelions, poppies and a bee.

3   Our beautiful Grandchildren have arrived and already the house is full of happy chuckles.

Tiny Socks, Warm Bath and Pea Souk Cafe

1  A friend saw my little golden-boots in yesterday’s post and sent me this picture. What beautiful little socks and such skill of the maker to whom I send the utmost admiration! Do click to see the detail.

2   I love this beautiful advice sent to me today by a young friend.  Putting them in water if they are crabby is such brilliant advice! A warm bath works wonders!

How to really love a child

3    We’ve been out to eat tonight at the most amazing little vegetarian restaurant, Pea Souk in Falmouth. What a delicious spread and everything freshly prepared and all grown here in Cornwall if not right there in Falmouth.

Bruschetta of Mozzarella, pea shoots, homegrown rocket pesto and radishes

Indian plate of Keralan green pea cakes, coconut, spinach and fresh curry leaf broth, aloo gobi, rice, carrot salad
