I love stationery and love the rainbow colours of this display in our local shop.
Visiting friends this afternoon, the lichen in their pile of logs caught my eye.
Tomorrow’s cake for the volunteers at Community Roots is Lemon and Blueberry .
Our four ‘children’ bought us a Family Apple Tree for Christmas and today a very lovely friend planted it for us. There are three varieties of apple grafted onto a semi-dwarf stock. You can find out more by clicking on the red link.

We had no treats in to go with coffee for our friends when the work was done so I quickly made some mini muffins in our air fryer that we got just before Christmas and which I am using for almost everything. I forgot to take a photo before we started on them. Being only a mouthful each, they didn’t last long.
Our friends brought us some beautiful eggs, a piece of art almost too good to eat – but they taste so good so will be our next few breakfasts.
Before I was up this morning, my lovely Mr S took this photo of vapour trails lit up by the rising sun.
He also took an early morning photo of our back garden showing the light tree and the bauble tree.
I made a fruity Heligan Pineapple Cake today topped with the delightful Snowman and Snowdog to serve as my birthday cake tomorrow. Click the red link for the recipe.
We discovered a beautiful little shop today, that has been in Hayle for many years! I’ll show you on Christmas Day what was bought there today.
This afternoon I have made many mince pies for our traditional visit from our neighbours tomorrow afternoon, after the BBC’s Nine Lessons and Carols on Radio 4.
With the leftovers of pastry, I made lots of parmesan stars, so tasty and tiny that they are nearly all gone already!
Not much sowing or planting going on at Community Roots at the moment so we finished off the Christmas cards that will go out with every veggie bag this week.
Today’s cake was a Christmas tree shaped Lemon Drizzle.
This evening we, The Suitcase Singers, have been singing at Cusgarne Manor. Because it was raining the event was moved into the stables which turned out to have wonderful acoustics. Another splendid evening with a wonderful enthusiastic and very generous audience. Tonight we were collecting for ShelterBox and Georgia’s Voice.
Well, that’s been quite a storm and another 24 hours of it are still to come albeit at Met Office yellow warning level rather than the amber it has been last night and all day today. We have been pretty lucky, fairly minor damage though I don’t like to see Welly Dog lying down after being blown over.

We set off to go to the market to deliver the golden coffee cake and to do our shopping but we were blown back up the drive so decided not to risk it. Consequently, I invited our lovely neighbour in for coffee and cake as we wouldn’t / shouldn’t eat a whole cake ourselves!
After we’d had coffee and cake, S suggested that as she was going into town, she could take the rest of the cake in to the market! She also offered to do our shopping for us.
Every year on this day, I take a tiny posy of whatever is flowering in our garden as a little gift to remember our lovely neighbour, Bill-next-door whose birthday is today. This year there was a tiny violet, a primrose, alstroemeria and a sprig of rosemary for remembrance.
At our sorting office where we we posting a 16th birthday card for Live Wire 2, there was this delightful post box topper.
Just tried a new recipe for tomorrow’s cake for the volunteers – Banana, Chocolate and Almond Loaf. The mixture on the beaters tasted delicious so I hope the cake does too!
Happy Thanksgiving to those we love in America – our family – my brother and SIL, my sister, nephews and nieces, grand nephews and nieces and friends, those we know and love and all my blogging friends
We always mark the day with a nod to Thanksgiving dinner. We just once had a proper one in Atlanta with family and it was lovely. Tonight we’ve had turkey steaks with sweet potato fries and baby onions in a white sauce – delicious!
I also made a mini Pecan Pie, absolutely scrumptious!
The low sun coming through the kitchen window at breakfast this morning, lit up one of my favourite mugs on the dresser and cast a very clear shadow.
I made another new cake for Roots’ volunteers, Apple and Almond cake. It turned out really well with one young volunteer saying it was the best cake he had ever eaten! I’ll make it again!
There were some beautiful raindrops as I walked about the farm this morning, collecting lavender for cuttings and loving everything I could see.
