Blooms, Beach and Cake

We left the hotel where we’ve been for a couple of delightful sunny and relaxing days but before we did, I took some photos of some of the lovely blooms in the garden.

On the way home we stopped off at Maenporth for a short walk on a very windy morning.

It’s Pasty Day in town tomorrow so I made a Coffee Cake, as usual, for the special market.

Soughing of Waves, Huge Leaf and a Baby Fawn

Another delightful walk to Bream Cove this afternoon  where the sound of the sea soothes all worries. I recorded it today in the hope that you, Dear Reader, might find solace too if that’s what you need.

The walk down the valley to the beach is full of wonderful exotic plants. One label caught my eye and then we spotted the leaf. You may be surprised that I had a tape measure to hand. I have carried this since my Mum died in 1994. It was hers and it is interesting how often it comes into use.

Having dinner this evening, looking down that same valley, the lovely Mr S saw a baby fawn and when we put the photo on the laptop, realised its Mum was there too. The photo was taken through the window and on maximum zoom.  They were only around for a few moments and added to the peaceful delight of today.

Moth and Sea

Walking down to Bream Cove, I spotted a moth inside a leaf.

The sunlight on the waves in the cove was lovely and the sound of the waves just what we both needed after an unsettling start to our week.

Roots, Sunset and Moonrise

Another busy day at Community Roots, lots of potting on of the winter leaves only sown last week, clearing of a polytunnel ready to plant up, harvesting of some chillies and herby tea for break. We also had a tour of the new building and were amused to see how the workmen keep their tools safe during their lunch break.

It’s been the warmest and clearest day of the summer so we took our supper and went to see the sunset and the moonrise at St Agnes.

Peacock, Weather Vane and Hydrangea Flowers

We met a beautiful peacock when out today.

Nearby was a peacock weather vane.

I have pruned one of out hydrangea bushes and brought some of the blooms indoors.

Autumn Leaf, Spring Flowers and Marmalade

Leaves are falling in Fore Street heralding Autumn.

We spent the afternoon planting daffodil bulbs,  in hope for a glorious Spring display.

Over the day, I’ve made some marmalade using the oranges I froze in January. I’ve made lots of tiny pots ready for breakfasts in bed for a week or more when the lovely Mr S gets his second new knee in a few weeks.

Stitchery, Old and New

There were some beautiful examples of stitchery at Trerice where we were with friends on Wednesday.  I hadn’t heard of Stumpwork before and loved this old example.

There was also a beautiful curtain where crewel work was the decoration.

The reverse appliqué circles that I made a few weeks ago (bottom two on the right) are being sewn onto the Redruth Story coat ready for Pasty Day in our town at the end of the month.

Bunting, Nectar and A Song

Driving through a village today, I was trying to catch the colourful bunting along with the clock when an enormous vehicle, filling the street, made us pull over so I got my photo.

The bees were busy in the allotment collecting the nectar still available.

A friend in the choir often makes short videos of our singing on Thursday mornings.  Here is part of a Macedonian Lullaby that we have been learning.

Day Out at Trerice

Trerice, an Elizabethan manor house, was the lovely place we met our friends for a delightful reunion after first meeting on our holiday in Tuscany last May. It was just a continuation of the special time we all spent together in Italy, today strolling around the house and garden with no let up in the conversation and enjoying lunch together in the barn.  Enjoy the gallery.
