3   The pile of pieces for Wool Against Weapons keeps growing, thanks to my friends who are knitting too. Two more pieces have joined the pile, one from Marilyn and one from Margaret so we are now up to ten. We are going to start joining them together soon, prior to our knit-in in Truro soon.

Ten pieces in the pile -seven more on the way.....

Copper Beech, The Other Granny and Fish ‘n’Chips

1   Next door’s Copper Beech is in full leaf and with the sun shining through this morning looked absolutely glorious.

2    What a delightful afternoon I have had! Driving through wild-flower-filled lanes to Perranporth to meet Grandbaby B’s other Grandma, sitting together on the front in sunshine, chatting about this and that and collecting Brenda‘s knitted contribution to the Wool Against Weapons 7 mile long scarf! That now makes 9 pieces ready to sew together. Thank you!
A lovely afternoon with photos taken by Judy, someone kind enough to take our photos and who commented how lovely it was to be overhearing the conversation of two very happy people!

3    We bought fish ‘n’ chips in St Agnes this evening and took them up to the Beacon to watch as the sun slid into the sea. As we came home the full moon was rising just behind the garden.

Roe Deer, Ice-cream and Sunset

1   We had a delightful visitor in the field behind our garden this morning – a female Roe Deer. She watched us for a while and then went across the field and up through the hedge to the cricket ground……  We have lived in this house for more than six years and have never seen a deer in the field before – a very rare treat!

2   I had lunch with a good friend today and then went for a walk round Castle Drive to see the bluebells and treated myself to an ice-cream!

Knitting for Peace, Poppy and Cloud

1    I finished my sixth piece for Wool Against Weapons yesterday so went to buy some more wool today.  Barbara, the owner of my favourite wool shop, Knitcraft Wool Shop, in Pool, near Redruth, had been busy knitting and gave me her contribution in a beautifully soft yarn that will make a lovely comforting blanket after the protest. Thank you so much! I’ve chosen the same soft yarn in a multi-colour pink for my next piece.

Garden Blues, Peace Knits and A Bouquet

1   Our garden has gone from being mostly yellow with a bit of blue to being mostly blue with a bit of white and it’s lovely! Click on any photo to see the detail.

2   I have just finished my fifth piece for Wool Against Weapons and have sat in the sunshine this afternoon listening to bird song and making a start on the next one.

I am posting the instructions for the pieces here for my blogging friend, Patty, who would like to know how to contribute to the 7 miles of Knitting for Peace. If anyone else out there would like to join the cause, we’d love to have your pieces to add to ours!

KNITTING AND CROCHET DIMENSIONS
1 unit =100cm long x 60cm wide        39.5″ long x 23.5″ wide

Use any stitch and any wool…suggestion: approx. 80 – 90 stitches wide – dk size 7 needles/4.5mm with approx. 100 rows – use a tape measure, it really varies!
crochet dk chain approx 75 st
any stitch
any colour of pink!

(I have found that I need 110 stitches on 5mm needles but it really does vary. To gauge how much wool knitters would need,  I weighed my first piece and it weighs only 180 grammes but the Suffragette one weighs 300g with the others coming in somewhere in between!)

3    A lovely surprise this afternoon – H from The Ingleheart Singers very kindly called in with a beautiful bunch of flowers from all my singing friends saying how much I am missed. I’m missing them too and the singing in harmony. Singing would be good for  for my soul and for my lungs and I want to get back as soon as possible!

Lovely 'Miss you' flowers

Arbour, Violet and Gold

1   I have spent the entire afternoon sitting in the arbour, listening to the birds, an old fashioned lawn-mower and Radio 4,  knitting my fifth piece for Wool Against Weapons and reading the odd chapter. An afternoon full of peace and tranquility – bliss!

2   On my way to the back of the garden, I spotted a beautiful Cornish Violet peeping through some Primroses. In all the years I was away from Cornwall, I always had Cornish violets and primroses in my garden.

3   In the back wall serendipity has had a hand. The Primroses that I planted there have centres that exactly match the golden blossom on the Berberis Dawinii and the border is looking beautiful.

Today is also World Cancer Day. Most of us know of someone who has won the battle, someone who is fighting the battle and someone who has lost the battle … let’s remember them all, especially today …
My heart remembers my lovely Mum and Dad, my dear friend Kath, to whom I dedicate this blog and two dear friends we met while volunteering in Mapoch, Marnie and Pastor Peter. They were both remarkable people and you can read about them by clicking on the red links.

In the past, I have mentioned ‘going up to England’ and some readers have questioned this, saying but isn’t Cornwall part of England?  Today, The UK Government have announced that the Cornish people will be officially recognised as a national minority under the Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/cornish-people-formally-declared-a-national-minority-along-with-scots-welsh-and-irish-9278725.html

Silver Linings and Special People

Ever the optimist and one to look for silver linings, the best thing about being ill for rather too many weeks has been the time I have had to knit! I have completed four meters of knitting for Wool Against Weapons and I have just started my fifth. At least I feel that I am achieving something positive!  The pieces are all supposed to be in pink but one or two rogue pieces have been sent in so my rogue piece is special. It is in the Suffragette colours of purple, white and green in honour of all the strong women (including my own Great Granny) who fought for our right to vote. The women, and some men, who are knitting for peace are fighting in their own way and I am proud to be one of them!
You could read the real Diary of an Imprisoned Suffragette here in my other blog if you’d like to know more about what these brave women went through to win the right to vote.

We have had our second daughter and family here for the last week and they have been brilliant, both KJ and L, our lovely son-in-law, taking over the cooking of all meals. We have eaten well! The Grandchildren have, of course, been a tonic with their laughter and hugs.

Rainbow, Lighthouse, Dandelion and Cornish Sign

1   It was a gloriously sunny morning and the Rainbow Maker that I was given for Mother’s Day worked properly for the first time throwing rainbows right through the house to the front door.

2   It was so lovely that I took myself off to Godrevy for a walk and, I hoped, a sit and knit in the sun session but by the time I got there it was cloudy and cool!

Knitting, Tulip and Magic

1    I’ve had to miss singing yet again tonight and, frankly, I’m fed up about that! The one good thing is that I’m spending my time listening to BBC radio 4 and knitting! I’ve completed another 100 cms for Wool Against Weapons and started the next one!

2   One pink tulip is all that is left from my second bouquet and it looks delightful in this flea-market treasure of a small cut glass jug.
