I came across this brilliant piece today and wish I’d known it when I was teaching.
I have an embroidery project about to start and am taking inspiration from this lovely piece. I don’t think mine will be 3d but I really like the effect here.

The first six years of my teaching career were spent in primary schools, mainly the wonderful Plover Primary School, and I remember story-time at the end of the day with great affection. My 10/11 years olds and I escaped into some wonderful worlds – those of The Weirdstone of Brisingamen, The Hobbit, of A Child’s Christmas in Wales and that of Flat Stanley among many, many more. After 10 years at home bringing up our four children (and reading more wonderful stories) I moved into secondary education and was able to introduce generations of young people to the wonders of literature – to story, poetry and plays. What a beautiful way to spend my working life! And what a shame that the practice of reading for half an hour at the end of every day has apparently been lost.
Walking up from town this afternoon, we spotted some crocus buds, golden and gorgeous in the evening light.
The rain had stopped but the grass still held little jewels of glittering rain drops.

Creating makes me happy, be it cooking a meal for family or friends, knitting or sewing clothes for little people, writings of various sorts, designing in the garden, playing music …….
3 These are the powder colours which I bought from a beautiful girl in Varanasi, India, on our way back from watching the sun rise over The Ganges. She made lovely patterns on my hand with them before we negotiated a price and she told me how she was selling things to raise money for her school books. She then walked beside me protecting me from the traffic (cows, cars, Tuktuks, scooters, coaches and cycle rickshaws) until we reached our bus. A beautiful memory.

1 I’ve practised on the piano so hard today – Fur Elise is beginning to sound right!
2 I’ve been collecting Fairies made by the talented Samantha Bryan for many years. This one, I commissioned for my retiring from teaching after many very enjoyable years. Fairies don’t instinctively know how to fly,you know. They need to learn and to be taught! I’ll show you more of my Fairy collection in the weeks to come.
3 We had fish’n’chips tonight from Mac’s in Redruth – fantastic and a rare treat that was much appreciated by all.
