Bins, LiveWires and A CookBook

To recap – my blog isn’t always about conventionally beautiful things, more about things each day which have made me smile, made me happy, turned on the endorphins for whatever reason.
My first picture today, of the recycling  bins at the Eco Park where my choir meets every week, is one such thing. As I was taking the photo, another choir member asked, “Why, on earth, are you taking a photo of the bins?”  I was taking the photo because of the differently shaped holes for depositing the material to be recycled. It reminded me of the wooden box made for me by my Grandpa in 1946 into which I sorted wooden shapes. Our own children all played with it and in 2018 we took it to Barcelona for our Grandbaby twins, LiveWires 5 and 6, to play with. So, the most prosaic of things can stir a happy memory!

I saw the perfect cookbook, Recipes for Rogues, for our outdoorsy son-out-law a few weeks ago and ordered it for him. It arrived today and I am so delighted with it, I can’t wait for him to have it for his birthday so will be posting it on very soon.

A Horse, A Garden and Sunset

A beautiful horse was in town this afternoon.

A friendly horse called Dday

We took lots of stuff to the recycling centre today and I went to talk to Alison on the gate to admire the garden she has made. All the pots are reclaimed or recycled including a Henry hoover and a pair of wellies.  All the plants are cuttings or leftovers from her allotment  and it is a delight. She loves that it makes all the punters smile as they come into the otherwise drab area.

It has been a lovely day so we headed out to see the sunset at Porthtowan but the clouds came in so it wasn’t as spectacular as it can be.

Marmalade, Lily and A New Outfit

We ran out of home-made Marmalade but had 700g of Sevilles frozen so we spent the morning making Marmalade, remembering my lovely Dad, as always, as he was the marmalade maker throughout my childhood and beyond.

One of the white Lilies opened this morning – very beautiful.

The stall nearest to me yesterday was Love Betty where Kate sells up-cycled clothes, new items made from old ones and I bought one.

The top part is bluer than it looks here, the ‘white’ panels are pale green and the whole thing, made from five items, is very pretty.

Recycled Glass, A Golden Bike and Mini Daffodils

I have been at another glass workshop, again taught by Lisa Macfarlane and organised this time by Upcycle Kernow, a new venture in Portreath with the idea of intercepting ‘rubbish’ going to landfill and upcylcling it. We used bottles, a glass lampshade and a double glazed window today along with a few bits from Lisa’s store, left over from her making stained glass windows. Here is my piece – in honour of the Suffragettes, of course!

The Upcycle Kernow workshop is indicated on the road by a delightful golden bicycle.

The Golden Bike

I have salvaged just a few Narcissi blooms as the others have made their way to being recycled in the compost.
