Sweetpeas, Gladioli and Agapanthus

1   In our garden, I have the very tall pan-stand that was in the kitchen since I was a little girl. We used it ourselves for pans in our last house but have no room for it now. Last year I grew the runner beans up it but they really needed more light so this year we have the Sweet peas climbing up it and they are doing well. Mum would have loved the idea!

2   The Gladioli are a lovely soft yellow colour that brightens up a darkish corner.

3   Our Agapanthus seem way behind everyone else’s but they are coming at last and are a beautiful, rich dark purply blue which I love.

White Agapanthus, Courgettes and Hydrangea Seemannii

1     We have just two beautiful white Agapanthus flowers. They are being battered by the wind so I hope they survive.

2   Today we picked our first two courgettes (zucchini for readers from the US and maybe elsewhere too). I wish you could have smelt them cooking in a little butter with lemon rind – so delicious.

3   The sustained sunshine has encouraged the tight flower buds of the Hydrangea Seemannii to open. They are very delicate and pretty.

Beautiful Day, Agapanthus and Martin Gravestone

1   The sun has shone on us today. We took the twenty minute  ferry ride from Falmouth to St Mawes and the fourteen of us had lunch together on the terrace at The Rising Sun, looking out to the sea.

2   There were beautiful Agapanthus in abundance in St Mawes.

3   On the way home we had a family pilgrimage to Gwennap Churchyard to see the gravestone that inspired Dad to write his first novel, Jeremy Visick.

No photos today as one of the children fell asleep in the study as soon as we got home and is still there, expected to sleep all night!  I’ll add them tomorrow.

A Funeral, A Baby Naming and Glass Art

1   It was a beautiful send-off for Mo this morning with a good number of laughs as her naughty sense of fun was remembered. Our singing of ‘You are my Sunshine’ was appreciated though the words have never seemed more poignant and we won’t ever sing it again without thinking of Mo. It was so good to have Claire Ingleheart with us returned specially from her work in London.

2   I spent the rest of the morning working on a Baby Naming Ceremony for Saturday – the welcoming into the world of another new life. The parents have chosen some lovely readings and their words are just beautiful.

3  I love these glass Agapanthus flowers which we bought in the Scillies a couple of years ago. Every time I see them, I remember our holiday. Unfortunately I don’t have the artist’s name.
