New Year’s Eve

It’s my birthday and what a lovely day I am having – special breakfast, cards and presents, phone calls, lunch and birthday shopping in Penzance, a very sociable gathering next door and Duck dinner to come! (And just as I was writing this, two beautiful friends called in – more joy!)

Periwinkle, Heather and A Poem

I went out at night alone;
 The young blood flowing beyond the sea
Seemed to have drenched my spirit’s wings—
 I bore my sorrow heavily.
But when I lifted up my head
 From shadows shaken on the snow,
I saw Orion in the east
 Burn steadily as long ago.
From windows in my father’s house,
 Dreaming my dreams on winter nights,
I watched Orion as a girl
 Above another city’s lights.
Years go, dreams go, and youth goes too,
 The world’s heart breaks beneath its wars,
All things are changed, save in the east

Curiosity, Primroses and Shoots

Teddy Bear, Sunbeams and Christmas Bunting

My morning was spent happily with the couple whose Wedding Ceremony I am conducting tomorrow and then we set off to Marazion to hunt for pretty pebbles and sea glass. We found some lovely pebbles but only one piece of sea glass. On the beach, a family’s picnic towel and stuff were being guarded by a monster Teddy Bear.

It was a fabulous warm sunny day and there were dozens of people enjoying the beach.

One of our Christmas cards was a do-it-yourselves row of bunting which I put together yesterday and we love it.

A Gift, Reflections and Happy Christmas to You All

In my last glass class I made a Christmas present for our lovely neighbour but couldn’t show you then as she reads the blog. The tree is only about 8cms tall.  We always have drinks and mince pies together in our kitchen on Christmas Eve and exchange presents.

Brining Solution, Sausage Rolls and Christmas Letter

Today I have made the beautiful brining solution for the turkey – oranges, onions, cinnamon sticks, juniper berries, cranberries, ginger, all spice, star anise, sugar and salt.

I made a start on other Christmas baking – this afternoon, the much requested sausage rolls.

I love getting Christmas letters, be they an insert written on the computer or hand written within the card. This poem sums up the sentiment.

Wherever you are when you receive this letter
I write to say we are still ourselves
in the same place
and hope you are the same.
