Earth Day 2015, Seeds Sprouting and Planning

Today is World Earth Day and a friend sent me a quiz to see which animal I might have been. Turns out I would have been a Wooly Mammoth!    “So unique, you’re technically extinct. But on the bright side, scientists hope to be able to clone you some day!”  Do try the quiz (click on the red link) and let me know in the comments which animal you are!
On a more serious note, Earth Day aims to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth. Typical ways of observing Earth Day include planting trees, picking up litter, promoting recycling and conservation. It is also a day for reinforcing our call for stronger or immediate action to stop global warming and to reverse environmental destruction.

To mark the day, I have spent the morning in the garden, tending our little bit of the Earth and admiring the blowsy tulips. I am delighted to  see my flower seeds sprouting. The strongest ones are the Cornflowers.

This afternoon, I have met a young couple to finalise their Wedding Ceremony which I am performing for them on Saturday. What a privilege it is to spend time with happy, loving people who are about to embark on the rest of their life together. Every one of these Ceremonies that I do is unique to the couple and as such, is especially moving and significant. This one will be in English and Swedish!

Weekly Photo Challenge – Early Bird

This Challenge required me to get up very early which I haven’t managed this week!   When on holiday however, I make a point of getting up for sunrise and this beauty was in Monument Valley in September 2011.

Yellow Fields, Home and Singing

Driving home there were fields after fields full of bright yellow, not the daffodils of Cornwall but the blossoms of Oil Seed Rape.

2   It is always so good to come home, however lovely a time we have had visiting family.

3  I went back to singing with The Inglehearts for the first time since my op and it was brilliant. We started with an African favourite of mine, Senwa Dedende. The video is not so good but you might like to hear what we sound like.

PS I have managed to load the photos for yesterday now that we are home again.

Pheasant, Wellies and Playing

Driving down the lane this morning, a colourful Pheasant walked along in front of us.

B’s yellow Wellies , decorated as they are by her Mum and Dad, are unique.

A cold wind kept us indoors today and B played with the old wooden toys we had brought with us. More about these in a soon- to- be post.

Butterfly, Blossom and Grand-Baby B

Today we have seen several butterflies in the sunshine – Brimstone Yellows, one Orange Tipped White, both too flitty to catch on camera, and this Peacock butterfly, lovely on the little purple flowers.

Up the lane there are several Crab Apple trees just dripping with blossom.

Our morning was spent building an enormous wooden swing and climbing frame, a second birthday present from her other Grandparents, for Grand-baby B who was very excited, brought out her own tool kit and helped with the nuts and bolts. The seat became a shelter from the sun and a lovely hiding place. Once it was all assembled, B swung for two and a half hours, laughing and saying, “B swinging!” “B’s playground!” and “Big one!” to go higher and higher. One very happy little girl!

The Heath, The Priory and Adventures

We spent the morning on Wretham Heath investigating everything! From rabbit droppings, rabbit skulls and rabbit holes, the favourites, to rook’s egg shells, empty snail shells and anything close to the ground that moved.

In the afternoon we discovered the old ruins of Thetford Priory, fascinating for B and ourselves. There were faces carved in stones, doorways to go through and steps to climb. The first stone was laid in 1107 and the monks first moved in in 1114.

1. We walked beside the Little Ouse into Thetford today and saw swans, coots, Mallards and ducklings.
2. There are lots of interesting buildings in the town. I liked these chimney pots.
