Shared Supper, Shoes and Helping

Last night was The Ingleheart Singers’ Christmas dinner and we all took along a dish to share. I made the Vegetable Ring which looks good for a Christmas meal and is delicious! It was well received and every crumb went! You can find the recipe here.

I love beautiful shoes as regular readers will know. These two pairs were particularly covetable last night.

I am resolved, after the disaster of last week, to do all I can to mitigate the effects of our Tory government and to treat the world and all those in it with even more kindness. There is a new homeless person in our town this week. It was bitterly cold this morning so I bought him a pair of gloves. My gesture plus the carol singer further up the street made him weep though he then told me of the generosity of Redruth people as he had been bought a hot drink just before I went by and others had stopped by to see how they could help.

The Extra Mile, Red Docs and Ballet Boyz

1   I took a very large envelope to the Post Office today, sending some of the Christmas Clings that Marilyn  very kindly sent to me, to our Grandchildren.  I asked if they had a ‘Please do not bend’ label but they didn’t. The woman behind the counter suggested that I add a piece of card  to strengthen it all and so I said I would take it home, do that and come back tomorrow. ‘Just a minute,’ she said and disappeared into the back. She then spent the next 5 minutes or so undoing my package, fixing it up with a piece of card and resealing it!  What a star!

2   I am so excited! I now have my red Doc Martens! Some of you will know I have been eyeing these for some time and today, there were some new ones in, in red leather rather than the patent and so I have some at last. I wore them out of the shop which reminded me of being little when we always took our old shoes home in the box and wore our new shoes home with such pride!

3   Tonight we went to The Hall for Cornwall to see The Ballet Boyz, an all male modern dance group. THe first dance was incredibly lovely showing off the beautiful male bodies; the second dance full of stylised violence and suppressed aggression and quite exhilarating.

Cornish Crabs, Shoes and A Staircase

1   The Farmers’ Market was in full swing in Truro this morning and I just had to photograph the enormous crabs on the fresh fish stall.

2    I love gorgeous shoes but the Docs are more my style than the ones with heels, lovely though they are.

Shoes I would love to have!

Christmas Tree Hat, Lecture Lunch, and All Dressed Up

1   I finished, I think, the Christmas Tree hat for Grand-baby T. What do you think? Does it need more decoration, some sequins perhaps, some other coloured stitched baubles? Please advise!

2  I went with my good friend M to a lecture lunch at Trelissick today. The lunch was delicious, the lecture about Cornish customs at Christmas fascinating, and spending time with my friend just lovely.

3   Tonight I was all dressed up (best American long dress in green and black and my gold Doc Martens, the ones that gave rise to my nickname by the pupils at school of Goldenboots) and ready to go and it all went pear-shaped. The lovely Mr Smith stepped in and suggested we go out for a meal instead to take my mind off things so we did. We’ve just returned, all dressed up, and, as it turned out, we did have somewhere to go!
