Sculpture, Blue and A Pie

Our eldest daughter came today to help my lovely Mr S move our very heavy Finger Labyrinth sculpture a few feet. It has been tricky mowing around it so now it’s at the edge of a flower bed and a new lawn will be sown where it was. It looks much better where it is now.
My next job will be to find plants to grow at the base that won’t grow too high to obscure the carved words. I shall start researching an evergreen, low growing shrub that has flowers, maybe scent……

Tomatoes, Raspberries and A Poem

The tomatoes are ripening well and the tiny ones are like eating sweets!

The raspberries are also doing well, just enough in a day to make a delicious dessert.

Carrots, Berries and A Poem

Volunteer harvest on Tuesday was newly harvested carrots. We had some that evening, absolutely delicious and so much more carrotty than ones bought in shops! Today I have grated some to make an American Spiced Carrot Cake and frozen it away for next Tuesday at Roots.

The berries in the front garden are beautifully bright red.

I love this poem and I’m surprised I haven’t posted it before. It’s the philosophy behind my blog, how extraordinary ordinary things are. I hope you enjoy it too.

Rainfall, Harvest and Feather

There has been rain over the last two nights but only 3 mls recorded since last Tuesday at Community Roots. A farmer on the radio this morning said the 8 mls he’d recorded was, ‘”A Goldilocks amount, not too little and not too much!” We hope for a little more over the next few days but with family about to visit, not so much as to spoil their fun!

More tomatoes were harvested today.

Lunch, Dessert and Post Box Topper

I met M for lunch today at The Olive Grove and we enjoyed a long natter and some delicious food in the most amenable environment

Served with salad garnish and sweet chilli dipping sauce. We shared a bowl of crunchy chips.

Birthday Cake

Yesterday, I made a vegan, gluten free chocolate cake for the birthday of one of our wonderful directors of Community Roots. Sadly I couldn’t be there this morning but I’m told it went down well.

Pie and Singing

Today I have made a family recipe, Picnic Pie, for my friend and I to eat just before singing in St Mawes for their carnival. I’ll add pictures of that event later if Im not too exhausted. We are to sing from 7-9pm!

Tomatoes, Onions and Sunflowers

It’s been a day of harvesting today at Community Roots – all the onions and the ripe tomatoes all gathered in and room now to plant out the winter brassicas and the later salad crops.

Just one of the 7 varieties we grow – these are Costaluto Fiorentino

My job today was to organise a Tomato Tasting of all seven varieties. The favourite was the cherry tomato, Mango Lassi, sweet and delicious!

A Sunflower somehow planted itself in one of the poly-tunnels and we’ve been watching it carefully, not clearing it away. It has bent over and sprouted flowering stems from up and down the stem – 8 flowers so far and at least four more buds to open.
