Quince, Topper and Sunset

I was given more quince yesterday. Having already made quince jelly and membrillo, these I am going to roast following a recipe given to me yesterday by one of the volunteers.

Thanks W for the honey roasted quince recipe

There’s a new postbox topper to celebrate Hallowe’en and I love it!

Coming home from taking the photo, I just caught some sunset. It looks like a raging fire in the sky.

Pumpkins, More Pumpkins and a Pumpkin Gift

It’s been a stay home day today as the wind howled, the rain fell and the temperature dropped so it was lovely to receive photos from my dear SIL of pumpkins in the Botanical Gardens of Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you V. perfect timing!

Pumpkins

More Pumpkins

It was very special too, to receive a gift in the post today of a beautifully knitted pumpkin which will take pride of place on our table through this Hallowe’eny time of year.

Thank you so much, Judith. I love how the knitted pumpkin is such a perfect replica of the ones in the photo above.

Cake, Scarf and A Poem

We had a few bananas in the freezer that needed using up so I made a Banana, Pecan and Raisin Cake for tomorrow.

As Nancy suggested, I decided to make a scarf with the lovely sprkly yarn I showed you a while ago..I think it will take me some time!

I found this piece the other day . It’s a good philosophy to live by!

Yarn, More Yarn and Moussaka

One of my favourite shops in town has started to stock wool and I went in today to see the new shelves – lots of gorgeous colours!

I couldn’t resist buying some very pretty multi-coloured wool and am now thinking of what to make with it!

I like to bake a big dishful of whatever, have some for tea and freeze away several potions so that we have ‘ready meals’ always available for when we don’t feel like cooking. Tonight it was a big dish of Moussaka. .

New Topper, Shadow and A Poem

There’s a new postbox topper on our street, four frogs fishing.

The evening sunlight lit up our lovely boat sculpture and threw a pleasing shadow.

I came across this poem, Rhapsody by William Stanley Braithwaite, today and wondered why I had never read it before. It’s in the book, A Poet for Every Day of the Year edited by Allie Esiri.

Soup, Topper and Pollinators

We had the most delicious soup for lunch today, Red Pepper soup, brought to us by dear friends.

Red Pepper Soup. Thanks M x

Exercise for Mr S now includes a short walk along our road to the post box where there was a delightful new topper of ice creams and ice lollies.

I’ve been talking with a fellow blogger about the lack of butterflies this summer but we do have some pollinators.

On the Train Home

Having spent three delightful days with LiveWires 2 and 3, their Mum and the gorgeous Maine Coon family, we are now back home in Cornwall. I love the five hour train journey – time to read, knit and watch the countryside whizz by. We were on the sea side on this journey so here are a few photos from today.

I woke very early this morning and caught the beautiful colours of the Solstice sunrise. Happy Solstice to you all.

International Knit in Public Day

As it is Knit in Public Day, I took my latest piece into town and knitted in our regular and favourite coffee shop in town.

The Craft Collective had planned to knit outside but as you see from their sign, we had some heavy showers today so they retreated indoors.

I found this on an Fb page I follow – and send solidarity to all those out on protest today, knitting or not. I hope you have all been safe.

National Knit in Public Day falls on June 14th. Consider knitting at a local NO KINGS DAY RALLY! Nothing says pacifist like a group of knitters, knitting in public.

Pink, Purple and Moominmama

Lots of potting on of various brassicas at Community Roots today. The chives are flowering well.

The poppies in one of the poly tunnels are remarkable.

Today, on Facebook,  I saw a delightful  postbox topper honouring Moominmama and I asked the maker, Lewis Delderfield, if I could share it here. Many of you will remember Ti, our dear friend with whom we used to share poetry and who died last year aged 105! She loved the Moomins and as soon as I saw this, I thought of her and how much she would have loved it and probably would have known that it’s the 80th anniversary of the Moomins.  Thank you so much to the maker for allowing me to share Moominmama knitting on here. .

“I have just put Moominmama out on my local postbox. She is knitting herself something nice to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of The Moomins!” Lewis Delderfield

Sheep, Planter and Knitting

This lovely little knitted sheep was on the table in our local bakery as we picked up our ordered loaves this morning.

In our Fore Street are some amazing planters put there by Redruth’s Incredible Edibles group. Everything planted is available for people to help themselves to a bit of edible greenery.

I knitted up the lovely bright yarn I showed you on April 9th. It’s a baby cardigan that will be going to Ukraine on the next lorry going. When I bought the new yarn on Monday and was chatting to the owner of our lovely local wool shop, she said I was not alone in wanting to start knitting the next project before sewing up the one I now have all the pieces for! Like many others, sewing up the piece is our least favourite part of knitting any garment. I love the pattern being created by the new yarn.
