Swan, Autumn Leaves and Guinea Pigs

After singing this morning there was one swan in the mud where the tidal  Penryn  river had gone out.

Some of the trees across the river were in lovely autumn colour.

Lots of local people were invited to be guinea pigs as our Buttermarket food hall opened for a trial run. We had a fabulous evening in what will be Cornwall’s only street food kitchens in a properly lovely venue, the renovated and restored Buttermarket in Redruth. The official opening will be next week and we can’t wait to go back. We are so lucky to have this wonderful new venue in Redruth.

Thank you to all of you who sent love  and condolences in one form or another today, it’s been good to feel the love.

Calm Waters, Every Day and Moon

The water of the Penryn River was so still this morning.

Thought I’d try black and white and liked this one.

It’s five years since I last posted the following words, still pertinent.

I published a couple of hours ago thinking the clouds would stop me seeing the Super Moon tonight but they  cleared a little and here is the Hunter’s Moon for you.

Image taken through the double glazed window.

For this one I went out of the back door to get a clearer image.

I do love to see the full moon.

Friendship Matters

I missed choir this morning but my lovely choir friends were thinking of us, one with a photo of the Penryn River and one with a recording of The Suitcase Singers singing one of my favourite songs, Harbour by Anna Tabbush.

Thanks, J, for this photo

Thank you S for this recording, very much appreciated.

Sunlight, A Bloom and A Poem

Before I went into singing today, I stood by the Penryn River for a while and watched the water and the sunlight upon it.

The wind and rain have beaten down the dahlias but this one was saveable and here it is in all its glory.

It’s National Poetry Day today and I have a poem for you. The theme of the day is Counting.

What counts?

Well, I do, almost every night between two and three

counting backwards from one hundred and

imagining each number in a different material

Rope numbers are thick and twisted,

embroidery silks are fine and gloriously coloured,

wool gets tangled and spider silk is almost too fine to see.

But what really counts

is love

and friendship

and care

and singing

and hugs

and freshly laid eggs.

Reflections, Pie and Storm

It was a quiet morning by the river in Penryn and the reflections were lovely, showing no sign of the storm to come.

I do love a good pie! This one was Chicken and Leek and was delicious.

The storm is now on its way as shown by our Sailor’s barometer.

Reflection, View and Weather Vane

Misty River, Egret and Arrival

LiveWire no 3 came singing with me this morning. She’s been coming whenever she’s been on holiday with us since she was 6 years old. It was another misty and very wet morning.

As we were leaving, we spotted an egret across the river.

Our son has been driving for 3 days from Barcelona to visit us and arrived about 6 this evening. What a delight to have  the biggest hug from him. Tomorrow another daughter arrives…..

Apostrophe, Mist, A Poem and A Photo

It’s International Apostrophe Day today and I wrote to the Guardian about apostrophe use in our small town. My letter (edited by them!)  was published. .

A misty morning and a yacht moored beside the car park

Yesterday, a poem by Mary Oliver was quoted during Ti’s celebration. I didn’t know it but today I found it.

I’ve just been replying to all the lovely comments left about Ti and was reminded of her joining in with knitting her metre of the Peace Scarf for Wool Against Weapons.

Singing, The River and Reflections

I went to choir this morning and loved every moment. Singing is so good for us! Here we are singing Pachabelle’s Canon, a version I learned at a workshop at WOMAD several years ago. I was given permission by our lovely leader to sing all the parts (as I used to do before Covid) so if you look carefully, you’ll see me on the move as each new part joins in. Thank you to Sue for recording this today.

This is the view from our rehearsal room. Aren’t we so very lucky?!  (And there’s an interrobang for you!)

Early on in the mist and later across the river…..
