Slow Worm, Golden Grain and Blackberries ……

….   and some music for you too today, later.

On our walk in the mizzle late this afternoon, the lovely Mr S spotted a Slow worm. I haven’t seen one since I was a child living in Penwartha near Perranporth. What a  treat!

We pass fields of gold on our local walk at this time of year and I am always reminded of Sting’s singing of Fields of Gold, which I love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLVq0IAzh1A&list=RDKLVq0IAzh1A&index=1

The Blackberries are ripening.

Door, Feather and Special Words

Next door to our favourite coffee shop, Home Ground, a new butcher’s shop is opening soon. We were both amused by the finger drawing in the white out paint, making the lovely door appear to have a beautiful, almost- handlebar moustache.
A feather has been left on the windscreen  of my Beetle. I love the serendipity of my photo, the accidental placing of the feather on the finial on our roof. I love how sometimes, the magic of a photo isn’t seen until it’s on the computer.
“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power.
Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget… another world is not only possible, she is on her way.
On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”

Cathedral, Flowers and Jam

Here you have a glimpse of Truro Cathedral from Cathedral Lane where the hanging baskets are glorious .

The hard working gardening team in Truro have filled the city with flowers in baskets, tubs and up lampposts, all beautifully tended and full of scented petunias. Here they are seen against the beautiful buildings on Lemon Street..

We had too many blueberries and they needed using up so I made some scrumptious Blueberry jam, just four little jars.

Walk, Flower and A Gift

What joy! We met Daughter No 3 and family at St Agnes Head this morning for a very windy walk. They are with us just for the day from their holiday in Devon.  LiveWire No 4 ran off down the path in the wind.

We spent some of the afternoon harvesting beans at the allotment and B picked a daisy which she later popped into the hedge along the lane as a “lovely surprise for someone to find!”

Our lovely LiveWire had made me some Rose Petal Perfume and bottled it beautifully. Some blogger friends and I were just talking recently about doing just that when we were much the same age so it was especially sweet.

We’ve had a really lovely day but when they leave I feel bereft. Covid has made visits even fewer and briefer.

Chicken, Supper and A Bit More Garden

I had a meeting this morning with a young couple to discuss their wedding in September. As I was waiting for them in the open air part of their local pub, a chicken came in to chat with me. Sadly I had no grain in my pockets.

Simple and easy supper tonight, Lasagne and some of our allotment grown Kale.

Here’s another view of a bit of our garden.

The Lost Gardens

We’ve had the best last day with the LIveWires and Daughter No2 in The Lost Gardens of Heligan, exploring areas we hadn’t visited before and generally having fun. The rain wasn’t a problem at all as we were all wearing the right clothes!  Join us in the gallery.

Surprise, Harvesting and Dinner

I’ve been to the Eco Park countless times and today took LiveWire No 3 to sing with me. She joined us on various zooms during lockdowns and loves singing with Claire. On the way out she spotted something I have never seen before, zebras behind fences! What a surprise!

Look very carefully!

After singing this morning, we spent the afternoon at the beach and later collected some more Dwarf Purple Beans for tonight’s meal. It’s lovely to such enthusiastic help with the harvesting.

Tonight’s meal with the family (Daughter No 1 has joined us for the day too) – Marmalade Chicken.

Special Discovery

For some time I’ve been thinking I need to clean up the frame of a sweet, hand coloured photo of me at three or  four years old, in a smocked dress made by my Mum. It’s a favourite and last week I took the photo out of the frame.

Behind the photo of me, I found two more very special photos of my Mum and Dad in their twenties I am guessing.  I had no idea they were there! Aren’t they just the most beautiful couple?

Bees, Beans and Busy

The bees are enjoying the Aliums.

We are enjoying having Daughter No 2 and her two LiveWires with us, especially when we were given help with today’s harvest of Purple Dwarf Beans for dinner and a Patty Pan squash to roast another day.

The day has been busy as you can imagine!
