Slow Worm, Golden Grain and Blackberries ……

11 Aug

….   and some music for you too today, later.

On our walk in the mizzle late this afternoon, the lovely Mr S spotted a Slow worm. I haven’t seen one since I was a child living in Penwartha near Perranporth. What a  treat!

We pass fields of gold on our local walk at this time of year and I am always reminded of Sting’s singing of Fields of Gold, which I love.

The Blackberries are ripening.

The family used to go blackberrying when my dad was in the RAF and we lived in married quarters at RAF Wyton.
I was about six or seven I think?
I seem to recall us blackberrying along some of the lanes when we eventually moved to Chester, though memory is a dubious thing so I wouldn’t swear to it.

Blackberrying along the lanes – lovely memories that I have too and so do our kids. My Dad’s novel, Jeremy Visick, begins with the hero, Matthew, collecting blackberries along the lane. 🙂

It is such an ‘English’ image, isn’t it?
        As David Gilmour sang:
        “The grass was greener,… Etc”

I had never heard that song before. Enjoyed.
I guess we can’t know them all.

Lovely creatures, my brother had a tank full when we were children in Cornwall but this is the first I’ve seen in many, many years. 🙂
