Weekly Photo Challenge – Grid

A rather different take on a grid, the pattern on this baby blanket making the grid.  For others in this week’s Photo Challenge, click here.

This is a blanket made for Blue Light Babies, a group aiming to provide every frontline ambulance in the UK with little hats and blankets, especially for babies who are born under the blue light as they arrive in the world before arriving at the hospital.

International Day of Peace

20150921-163932.jpg
Our friend Paul, the Peace Pilgrim, who is walking from Rome to Jerusalem has arrived in Macedonia. You can follow his journey and leave your own message of peace by following this link. http://www.peacewalk2015.com/

A Door to Peace by Joseph T Renaldi

The door to world peace is open.
All nations are invited to come in.
A welcome mat is available for every one,
And rogue nations may enter again.

The door to world peace is open
And no nation is turned away,
But if few decide not to enter the fold,
Peace will be shortlived in every way.

Peace keepers fill our hearts with hope,
And attempt to dry our heavy tears,
And open hearts for sound relationships
That will last for many delightful years.

A nation that is closed to others
Grows harder than concrete or stone,
And the people who reside there
Are destined to be isolated and alone.

If you slam the door on some nations,
Peace initiatives will continue to cease,
But if all nations are willing to compromise,
What a difference it can make to seek peace?

Skeptical nations will always wonder
How world peace might have been
When the door was open for them to enter,
But they failed to come in.

Shop Windows, Brownie Mountain and Lasagne

Life is getting back to normal! We went to Truro today, very early so as to have the pavements relatively free of shoppers so that walking with my crutches would be easy. There were some lovely Autumny windows and I found a new colouring book and a beautiful turquoise cardigan, lucky me!

I have done my first baking today for over a month and those who read here regularly will know how I love to bake. With help from the lovely Mr S, I have made a Chocolate Brownie Mountain for a young friend whose 15th birthday it is today. She and her older sister first tasted my special brownies about seven years ago and always ask if there are any on the go so they seemed the right ones to make for her birthday.

Our good friend G rang us this morning to say that he has made us a Lasagne for tonight’s meal – how kind is that? We have just finished eating it with a fresh green salad. Thank you!

And for Sue-next-door who is away from home, another of her beautiful cats, seen here with a mottled coat of raindrops as I took the photo through the window.

Bandstand, Lunch Out and Fascicularia Bicolour

We decided lunch out would be good today after a month spent mostly indoors. We set off for the Princess Pavilion restaurant in the Gyllyngdune Gardens and though the bandstand was beautiful, the menu didn’t tickle our taste buds so we went on down to The Gylly Cafe.

20150918-185440.jpg
That was a very good decision as I had one of the best lunches ever! I had their Mixed Seafood Platter which consisted of Crab claws, Scallops, Tiger prawns and Brill with a deliciously dressed salad. It was one of those meals that you just don’t want to finish and it did take a long time to eat being messily scrumptious.

Coming away, the brilliant red and blue Fascicularia Biclour in Queen Mary Gardens are in flower. They are like something from another world.

A Poem and Next-door’s Cat

Thank you to Caroline and Salinda for introducing me to this poem today though I do usually have my camera/s with me!
“Look it Over” by Wendell Berry
I leave behind even
my walking stick. My knife
is in my pocket, but that
I have forgot. I bring
no car, no cell phone,
no computer, no camera,
no CD player, no fax, no
TV, not even a book. I go
into the woods. I sit on
a log provided at no cost.
It is the earth I’ve come to,
the earth itself, sadly
abused by the stupidity
only humans are capable of
but, as ever, itself. Free.
A bargain! Get it while it lasts.

One of next-door’s cats, Zorro, came to call this afternoon, stopping off to have a drink of water from the freshly made rain puddle on our garden table.

Baby Teethers, Knitting and A Pink Sky

Today is the birthday of one of my twins, born just before midnight and just 9 minutes before his sister. I still have their teething toys after all these years.

I had a special knitting order from Littlest Live-wire for some new leg warmers and I finished them today, made with rainbow wool so that they will go with any outfit.

Tonight’s sky was a very beautiful and bright pink that lasted only a few minutes. I was in the right place at the right time.

Still Waters and Hydrangea

The morning was beautiful after a very stormy night and we went for a walk around the flatter bits of Trelissick. The view from the terrace in front of the house is always glorious.

There were hydrangeas in flower all over the gardens. These I loved the best of all.

Goldfinches and White Flowers

The white flowers in the garden look their best in early and evening light. There are Cosmos, Japanese Anemones and Clematis with a flash of Fuchsia. The Goldfinches are eating the sunflower hearts rather than the Niger seeds at the moment, just two here but we have had eight or nine at once which is lovely to see.

Knitting and Pencil Sharpener

I’ve made another little hat for Blue Light Babies in a gorgeous soft multicoloured baby wool. I have a blanket nearly finished but that takes much, much longer.

20150913-193459.jpg
I’ve had another go at my Mindfulness colouring book which is quietly therapeutic. When we were in London in July, I bought myself a fabulous five hole pencil sharpener from the RA shop. With it I can sharpen pencils of five different sizes! I have been a stationery geek ever since I was a little girl, just loving each September when I could get my new pencil case and contents for the new school term. I had that joy throughout my teaching career too!
