Tree Owl, Books and A Carnation

1   A young friend has kindly given me permission to use her photo of a walk in the bluebell woods in the new memorial garden at RSPB lodge at Sandy. I just love how the owl has been carved in the stump of an old tree.

2   I grew up in a house with thousands of books. We don’t have quite that many but I just loved this poster when I saw it. The illustration by Edward Gorey is quite delightful. It pleases me too that it is mostly purple, white and green – Suffragette colours.

No such thing as too many books!

3   The miss-you carnations that my friends at The Inglehearts sent a week ago are almost fully open. Isn’t this one just glorious?!

And this link is for Alex, a young blogging friend, who keeps me informed about all sorts of things astronautical. Growing lettuces in space! I found the idea fascinating and you might too.

Solitary Walk Through The Churchyard in Spring – Weekly Photo Challenge

I was on my own for most of today and went for a quiet walk through St Euny graveyard, a most peaceful and tranquil time. My only companions were the birds, including a Jay, a couple of fast moving rabbits and a Hare whose huge ears were listening intently as I tried to get his photo into focus! The Bluebells and the Three Cornered Leek were in abundance with Red Campion and Primroses still making their mark. There had been a wedding recently and I dedicate this post to Ute, a friend I have made over the blogosphere, who was married in this Church here in Redruth.  Click on any photo to see the detail, especially the Jay and the Hare!

You can find some more super entries  in this challenge here.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Spring

On December 10th last year we helped our good friends plant their new woodland. Click here to see the newly planted trees. Below is a gallery of the growth to be seen this Spring, April 9th 2014, Pussy Willow, Cherry blossom and more. In the field next to their woodland is a field full of Cornish daffodils. I’ve included a photo of Kaia too as she accompanied us around our walk and is a joy to have around, being as she is, always full of the joys of Spring!

This post is for Ti and her family, with love.

Dylan Thomas, Diamond Raindrop and New Cardigan

1   As my regular readers will know, I am a huge fan of the writing of Dylan Thomas. I love his poetry and even more, I love his play for radio,   ‘Under Milk Wood’. I used to read U.M.W. with my GCSE literature classes before the curriculum dictated only a few plays that we could read. They grew to love his humour and his marvellous use of language almost as much as I did. Of course, they loved that the name of the seaside village where Under Milk Wood is set is named, Llareggub, bugger all backwards!  He died in New York having continued his reading tour despite having a serious chest infection and he died of pneumonia at only 39. What a tragic waste of an incredible talent though he has left us some magnificent treasures. I have posted herehere and here about his work. Click on the links for some Under Milk Wood, Poem in October and Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night.

2  I found this beautiful diamond of a raindrop in a newly formed Lupin leaf.  Click on the photo for really beautiful detail.

3   Today I have finished of the multi-coloured cardigan for Grand-baby B by sewing in all the ends. I am very pleased with it though I think it’ll be a while until she grows into it. Better that than too small!

Singing, Choir Baby and Kedgeree

1   What a joy to be back at singing again this morning. I couldn’t join in everything but enjoyed watching our beautiful Choir baby, playing, dancing and singing.

2   Choir baby E has grown up so much in the weeks I have been away. Our last song today was the rousing Bella Ciao and our choir leader gave E her own copy of the words. She held them very seriously and sang along with fervour with the rest of us.

For a special treat, watch this short video, not very good quality but a treat nevertheless, listening to Choir-baby E singing Bella Ciao, backed by The Suitcase Singers.

3    A quick and easy supper was called for so Kedgeree (of a sort) was our choice.
