Bird Watching, Pancake Day and Crêpes Suzettes

There has been a great deal of bird activity in the garden today though they flew away into the trees each time there was a hail shower. There were Goldfinches, Green Finches;  a Robin; Blue Tits and Great Tits; Long Tail Tits and just one Nut-hatch. The day of The Big Bird Watch there wasn’t a bird in sight!   Click on any photo to see the birds more clearly.

It’s Pancake Day and we started with Savoury Pancakes stuffed with turkey in a tasty peppery sauce. Later this evening we will have our Crêpes Suzettes which we love!

Coffee Cup, Feather and Magpie

1   Having my cup of coffee this morning  I realised that our kitchen light was reflected beautifully in the black coffee. I had to let it cool down before I could take the photo as it kept steaming up!

2   I took so many photos of Redruth this morning for another “My Neighbourhood” post to be done tomorrow. On my way back up the hill I spotted this tiny feather being blown back and forth in the breeze.

3    We’ve had the Long-tail Tits here again today but they don’t hang around to have their pictures taken – neither do the Magpies. They are very skittish and leave if there is any movement in the house. I stayed put in the kitchen, used maximum zoom and managed to get this shot.

This last is for Liz, as promised. I am trying to entice her to visit Heligan!

Birdwatching, Pastry and Baklava

1  It’s been a busy day at the bird feeders today. We’ve had a pair of chaffinches, the goldcrest, lots of goldfinches, blue-tits, coal-tits, the longtail tit family and great tits as well as the robins, our blackbird pair and some dunnocks all feasting away.

2  We had some pastry leftover at Christmas and wondered if the birds might like it. We rolled it out and rolled lots of seeds into it. It took them a while to decide that it was okay and today they’ve finished it so I’ve made them a special batch with sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds which they are eating with gusto.

3  I discovered a box of Baklava in the larder that were missed over Christmas. Mr S and I have been the ones enjoying them!
