Hyacinths, Woodpecker and A Word

I put the hyacinth bulbs in water in our Victorian bulb glasses today. They are very late and are now in a dark cupboard but I don’t know if they will work, certainly not in time for Christmas but maybe in time for my birthday.

A  Great Spotted Woodpecker visited us today.

I love words as regular readers will know. This one, from the Middle Ages, is the past participle of forswinke which means “exhausted from physical exertion.”  That’s been me for the last couple of weeks!

Birds and Flowers in the Garden

The beautiful Longtail Tits are back! They are my all time favourite bird but they don’t often stay still long enough for a photo. They have joined all the others we have feeding in our garden, the “charm’ of Goldfinches, the Blue Tits , Coal Tits and Great Tits, the Pigeons and Black Caps, the Robins and Bullfinches, the Blackbirds and Magpies but today’s other rare treat was the Woodpecker who did stay long enough for a photo.

From August 2013

We’ve been tidying up in the garden today. It’s good to see Spring flowers appearing.

Scent, Pudding and A Visitor

You’ll have to imagine this, the glorious smell of newly mown grass as a tractor turned up to mow the back field.

Blackberry and apple crumble this evening with the blackberries we picked the other day.

We have heard the Woodpecker in the trees for the last few days and today it visited but didn’t pose for the best of photos.
