Lift, Monument and Sky

We enjoyed the illustrations in the lift at Truro Museum and Art Gallery where we were to see the new exhibition, ‘Framed: Open Cornwall’, 150 pieces of art all by artists in Cornwall  Visitors are invited to vote on ‘best in show,’ most skilful pice’ and the ‘piece that makes you happy.’  I totally fell for a beautiful piece that made me happy and would have bought it but for it being a four figure sum!

Coming home, I tried to take a photo of the Bassett Monument up on Carn Brea. but almost lost it behind a lamp-post. Can you just make it out?

I love skeleton trees especially with pink clouds behind them.

More Flamm, A Book and The Moon

I spent a delightful afternoon going around town seeing, and joining in,  many of the Flamm exhibitions I had missed yesterday. I took part in Jacqui Callis’ three minute candle-lit meditation, gave in ideas for Keith Sparrow’s evolving  map of Redruth, watched a truly lovely film set among the rocks of Carn Brea that had a lovely natural sound-track and made a book with the expert guidance of Tony Cosby.
How lucky we are to live in Redruth with such amazing cultural opportunities.

My concertina book, cover a very old map of South Africa

My lovely Mr S took this photo of the half moon which he spotted when up in the attic.

The Writers’ Block Arrives in Redruth

The Writers’ Block has moved to Redruth and is in the old Library, the building now known as The Ladder.  Today was their opening day and lived up to expectations. It really is “an inspirational space with events and activities for all ages and abilities cultivating writing confidence, creativity and enjoyment.”
Enjoy the gallery and click on photos to read the explanatory captions. Do click on the website to read about Simon Armitage.

Pickled Grapes, Seed Heads and The Bowie Lounge

While we were in Atlanta, my lovely SIL made some Pickled Grapes which looked so beautiful in the jar that I had to give the recipe a try. I did that this morning and they do look amazing. I don’t yet know what they taste like!

The different Clematis plants all have different fluffy seed-heads.

We have just come in from a fabulous musical experience, The Bowie Lounge at our local theatre, The Regal. The whole place was abuzz with excitement and delight at the show, an artistic response to the work of David Bowie with music, word and dance – and all brilliant  local talent. As Mark Kermode said, “A strange and wonderful experience, The Bowie Lounge ….  is joyful, melancholic and really rather moving. I absolutely loved it!”
