Programme, Posters and A Poem

Things are coming together for Perthi Kov’s production of ‘Until the Day Break’. Today the programmes were delivered and we collected the posters. Just showing you a little of one for now but when the show is done, I will show you all of them. They have been designed for us by the very talented Anna Oliver of Fresca Marketing using a painting by Sue Hill (programme) and images from St Euny Graveyard.

A little poem today for you:

An Epilogue by John Masefield.

I have seen flowers come in stony places
And kind things done by men with ugly faces,
And the gold cup won by the worst horse at the races,
So I trust, too.

Rehearsals in St Euny Churchyard

It is less than two weeks to the start of our production of ‘Until the Day Break’!  Today was a choir rehearsal with The Ingleheart Singers and The Red River Singers for the whole route, planning who should sing where – very exciting! There were small character rehearsals going on too so here is a gallery to give you a flavour of our beautiful afternoon. Click on any photo for more detail.

Spring Posy, Clematis and Beribboning

I collected a tiny posy of Spring flowers today for my lovely little pottery container sent to me by our lovely friend, P.

The Clematis in the front garden is beautiful.

We have a friend staying for a few days and we all walked down to the Churchyard to take photos of four special gravestones which are to be part of the performance 18th-21st May. They are each to be marked by ribbons and the four young women being remembered will be wearing the same colour of ribbon on their costume.

In Print, Violets and Sunset

This morning I found the May issue of Cornwall Today in the shop and our project has a wonderful six page write up from Kirstie Newton with fabulous photos taken by Sally Adams.

The article about our project

I spent another couple of happy hours in the Cornish Studies library today finding more images for our exhibition and our programme – all very exciting and this evening we went up to St Agnes Beacon for a quiet walk together, no-one else around and found some peace.

We watched the sun set.

A Day’s Work, Handprint and Rowers

The Perthi Kov team have all been hard at it today, costume schedules, character discussions, poster making and programme designing – just brilliant and I want to record my thanks to the team making this happen. They know who they are.  The flyers are ready for printing too.

We had supper at The Blue Bar this evening and then had a walk on the beach at Porthtowan. We spotted a handprint that suggested someone was doing cartwheels earlier in the evening. I used to love cartwheeling across the beach!

We watched the rowers practising.

St Euny Graveyard and ‘Until the Day Break’

What a brilliant day! Warm sun shone on us as we began to rehearse ‘Until the Day Break’ in St Euny Churchyard with both choirs, The Ingleheart Singers and The Red River Singers, with the professional actors and all the volunteers. It was truly wonderful seeing our ideas all come together. In the gallery you will see the warm up in the Church, some of the rehearsals at the gravestones, our tea break and more rehearsals and, if you click on the video, even hear a bit of one of the songs we have just learned.

St Euny, Yellow and A Poem

This morning we walked the Churchyard again, this time with the photographer for Cornwall Today, a local magazine where our project is to be featured in the May edition.  Every journey into the Churchyard is a revelation – more stones discovered and different Spring flowers in bloom. Today it is Celandines, Primroses and Daffodils.

This beautiful poem by Linda Gregg is most appropriate for today.
In Praise of Spring – Linda Gregg

The day is taken by each thing and grows complete.
I go out and come in and go out again,
confused by a beauty that knows nothing of delay,
rushing like fire. All things move faster
than time and make a stillness thereby. My mind
leans back and smiles, having nothing to say.
Even at night I go out with a light and look
at the growing. I kneel and look at one thing
at a time. A white spider on a peony bud.
I have nothing to give, and make a poor servant,
but I can praise the spring. Praise this wildness
that does not heed the hour. The doe that does not
stop at dark but continues to grow all night long.
The beauty in every degree of flourishing. Violets
lift to the rain and the brook gets louder than ever.
The old German farmer is asleep and the flowers go on
opening. There are stars. Mint grows high. Leaves
bend in the sunlight as the rain continues to fall.

Cruet Set, A Walk and Bark

I loved this cruet set which was on the table in The Melting Pot cafe in Krowji where we had a delicious lunch of Courgette and Leek soup.

Another walk in St Euny graveyard this afternoon – this time to talk logistics with Rebecca Mordan of Scary Little Girls who do literary theatrical walks. Our production, Until the Day Break,  becomes  more real every time we take someone else on the walk with us.

A tree in the graveyard caught my eye – the beautiful colours of the bark and the pictures therein. It was like cloud watching and finding shapes in them. I just discovered that there is a name for doing that – Pareidolia – I love new words!  What do you see here? My first mind picture changed as I took the photo.

Project and Happy World Book Day

I have spent the whole day on our project, walking the graveyard first with the writers to time the stories and the journey and this afternoon, walking with the choir leaders deciding where to have music and what music to use.  It is all coming together and is very exciting!

It’s World Book day and all the following appealed to me, especially  the walk-in library one!

Graveyard Stomp, Yellow Lane and White Primroses

Our project, Until the day Break, stories from the graveyard, moves on apace. On Sunday we had the most amazing afternoon with people who came to find out more and to volunteer as actors, makers, helpers and more and goodness, there was some talent in the room. It was wonderful to hear our stories being brought to life.  This morning Sue and I stomped around St Euny Graveyard with a journalist, Kirstie,  from the magazine Cornwall Today. We told her about the project and about our excitement that it is coming together. She is going to write an article about it all for the May edition.

One of our Perthi Kov crew just happened to be riding by and came up the lane to meet us all.

After that windblown adventure, I went for lunch with some lovely friends. I just had to stop on one of the lanes to take this photo to show you the daffodils. There was no traffic about!

In lovely Sue-next-door’s garden there are some very pretty white Primroses.
