Windows

About three weeks ago, our local builder took out our two back windows and put in the one we had been wanting for ages and just decided to get done.

What a difference the removal of a very small wall could make and what an excellent job they have done.  We’ve spent the last week decorating and we  are delighted with the result.

Daytime

My lovely Mr S has a nasty respiratory virus as I had several weeks ago. We are hoping he’s better for Christmas and much better for New Year when the whole family are coming to celebrate my 80th birthday in style. .

Posy, Thank-Yous and Advent Candle

I picked a little garden posy today for Sue-next-door to mark the birthday of her lovely Bill – rosemary for remembrance with the last of the blooms in our garden..

At Community Roots today, I spent a while looking through a beautiful little book made by pupils from a local school who spent a day in our community garden recently.

Here’s our Advent candle.

Amber, Yellow and Green

There is just one leaf left on the Amanagowa Cherry tree.

The roses we were given two weeks ago are still gorgeous!

We have Rocket and Lolo Blondi growing in the greenhouse.

Planting for Spring Colour

It’s been a gloriously blue sky, bright sun day but very cold – perfect winter weather. My lovely Mr S went out and planted the last of our bulbs, two packs of each, for colour in the Spring while I stayed indoors, kept warm and nursed this infuriating virus.

Purple, White and An Etching

My suffragette garde, all purple, white and green has just a touch of coulour left, a couple of blossoms on the Choisya, just one japanese Anemone and some fading purple Hebe flowers

and an etching that pleases me.

Roses, Leaves and A Book

Friends I’ve know since teenage years and whom we haven’t seen for a while as they now live in Wales, popped in this afternoon and we had a lovely couple of hours catching up and laughing. They brought us some beautifully sunny roses.

The colour on the Amanagowa Cherry tree is bright and autumnal.

I’ve had a lot of time to read this last week and have just finished a remarkable and beautiful book, one of those where the characters stay in your head and you  continue to think about them and their futures. All the characters are so well drawn, the plotting is intriguing and the descriptions of the natural world are lyrical and evocative – really a beautiful read.

Thank you M for lending me this treasure of a read.

A Walk and A Dance

Do join us for a lovely Autumn walk around the gardens of Trelissick.

We saw a Seagull stomping and dancing on the grass encouraging worms to emerge. Several did. We’ve never seen this behaviour before.

Bee, Baking and A Poem

I was dead-heading the Cosmos this morning when a bee came to visit even this late in October.

We have made Carrie’s Date Slice for coffee time tomorrow.  Here it  is,  just gone into the oven.

I’ve another Mary Oliver poem for you. Every one of hers that I read hits a chord.

Geranium, Compote and A Poem

Our clocks went back overnight and it really feels like autumn outside though the geraniums still have flowers.

I made Blueberry Compote today to have on autumnal breakfasts of waffles or porridge.

And a pleasing poem about Autumn for you.

Ponies, Posy and Plaque

Technically these are not ponies but I liked the alliteration. It’s only height that determines pony or horse so maybe the smaller one that you can hardly see here does qualify. These two are in the field at the bottom of our garden and always come close when I call ‘Hello!’

We visited friends  for an afternoon of chat and laughter and took a small garden posy with us.

We drove by a splendid plaque that is on the wall by the station and stopped long enough at the lights for me to get a photo. I love the red section with the words, ‘Love, Kindness, Community, Friendship, Respect ‘ to sum up our town. I’m sorry I don’t know the artist. .
