Visit, Lunch and Family History

My cousin and her husband, who live in Australia, have been with us today and what a catch up that was! We think we last met in person when I was 16 and W a little younger. We have kept in touch by email and through this blog. I had made Eccles cakes in her honour as I know how she loves them.

We went to Gylly Beach Cafe for lunch having driven around Castle Drive to see the fine view around the Carrick Roads across to St Mawes and into Falmouth Bay. I took a photo of the Specials board to share and the battery in my camera announced that it was “exhausted.” Hence no more photos of our day together…..

W brought me some treasures – some lovely photos of our shared Grandparents and a photocopy of a page of her father’s autobiography with references to my Mum, here known as Twm, the name her Father gave her that stayed as a nickname. It means Gift from God. The extract describes my Mum’s inventiveness and her delightful sense of mischief. I had never heard this tale from her!

Breakfast, Swimmers and Sounds of the Sea

While we were in the Gylly Cafe for a delicious breakfast, lots, and I means lots of people came down to the sea for their cold water dip. You might just be able to spot some of their heads in the water! After our delicious breakfast, we walked along Cliff Road and sat by the sea soaking up the sunshine and listening to the gentle soughing of the waves.

We went to Falmouth today to meet friends for lunch today and afterwards walked back along Cliff Road in almost stifling heat of 30C. By the time we arrived back in Redruth it was 20.5C!

Blues, Hollyhock and Celebration Seeds

I sang at a care home in Falmouth with The Suitcase Singers this afternoon and it was an absolute delight to see the joy on people’s faces and to have them join in with Cornish songs. Afterwards we went to see the sea at Gylly Beach. I love the variety of blues seen here and the tiny paddle boarders, the yachts and other vessels.

On the cliffside along Cliff Road, there are Hollyhocks growing.

As well as Angie’s ring, her daughters gave everyone at the funeral and me though I could only watch online, Sunflower seeds to celebrate her life. I have several at the allotment.

Circles, Gorse and Cake

After 5 weeks, we had our first walk by the sea in glorious sunshine and on the same flat area where I practised walking after my new hips. It was a brilliant success for the lovely Mr S, his new knee and his crutches. I was intrigued by someone snorkelling in the rock pools and creating ever increasing wavelet circles. When he came out of the water we could see that he had been using a very big underwater camera.

I loved how the glorious yellow of the gorse and the blue of the sea caught the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

It’s St Piran’s day tomorrow and there will be a big market in town as well as lots of entertainment. I made a coffee cake for the cake stall.

Sunbeam, Leaves and Eden at Cop26

Our choice for breakfast with friends this morning was the Gylly Cafe in Falmouth. The skies were a bit grey with occasional sunbeams lighting bits of the sea but we had a lovely time as always catching up, laughing and putting the world to rights – if only we could! Breakfast was delicious too.

Walking back through the park after breakfast, these enormous neon leaves caught our attention.

Our lovely neighbour has been in Glasgow with the Eden Project’s stand at COP 26. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Winter Sun – Three Views

Our walk along Cliff Road in Falmouth was a chilly one in cool winter sun.

Roses, Sails and A Lane

We were mired in mist and murk again today and the droplets on the roses looked like tiny jewels.

Driving to Falmouth this morning, we came out of the mist and into a bright day and later the sun suddenly shone through the sails at Gyllyngvase Beach today, so lovely.

There was sunlight later on our way home slanting through the trees.

Another Walk by the Sea

Our walk today took us from Gylly Beach to Swanpool and we were delighted to see some wild flowers still bravely putting out their flowers and lots of berries and seeds. There was quite a lot of activity on the beach and the water, even swimmers!
