Another Kitten, Feather and Flowers

The kitten I showed you yesterday left home and went to live with daughter no 1. This one stayed at home and here he is at about 12 weeks and 6 months.

A feather turned up on the carpet. How? I don’t know but I do love the delicacy of feathers.

The white Cosmos flowers are still going strong despite the wild winds and heavy rains.

Planting, Apples and A Kitten

Let down by our car this morning, I couldn’t go to Roots so decided to do some planting at home. I pulled up the finished Petunias and Lobelia and put in lots of Tête à Tête bulbs for the Spring and over-planted with lovely white winter flowering pansies.

I brought home some apples from Apple Day last week and today peeled them all and cooked them lightly with cinnamon for crumbles in the winter, one tonight and the rest frozen. I love the pinky flesh of the little red ones mixed with the white cookers.

Just for fun, a photo of one of our daughter’s beautiful Maine Coon kittens at about 12 weeks old.

Singing, The Roses and A Poem

Choir has resumed today – hurray!  I’ve just come home from seeing The Roses, a thoroughly enjoyable piece of nonsense described as black comedy,  beautifully acted and sometimes quite startling!

Another poem came my way today, one that I’ve shared before and it still touches me deeply .

Flower, Eclipse and Silver Lining

I went to weed the leeks at the allotment this afternoon and found this pretty self-sown flower growing on our patch.

I hope some of you have managed to see the eclipse/ Blood Moon this evening. Today’s clouds disappeared so I spent half an hour looking East but we are too low down here,. However, the clouds turned pink for the duration so it was just out of sight below the horizon. I shall hope to get a photo of the full moon, the Corn Moon, later this evening.

Looking West a few moments later, the sunset was quite subdued  but I do love the silver lining and the tree silhouette. .

Hanging Basket, Sweet Corn and Passion Flowers

I went into town for the first time in seven weeks this afternoon and loved the colour in the lamp-post baskets. I was there for the 4pm Redruth Resists Silent Vigil for Palestine and was heartened by how many drivers honked their horns and waved.

We have eaten our first crop of sweet corn this evening and it was absolutely delicious with a little salt and lots of butter.

There are still blooms on our Passion Flower and today I noticed we have a fruit! I don’t suppose it will ripen now the nights are drawing in but it’s pleasing anyway.

Park, Ducklings and Tea-Cosies

After a lovely breakfast with friends in Truro, we took a short walk in Boscawen Park. The flower borders are still looking lovely, I like the design of the signs and I loved watching the ducklings.

Afterwards when shopping I saw some quirky  and very attractive tea-cosies made by Poppy Treffrey,  a maker and designer I have only just become aware of but whose website is a delight. See it here.

Strawflower, Caterpillars and A Poem

I love the vibrant orange of this strawflower, Helichrysum.

I don’t know what these dancing caterpillars are but they were all over the red leaves of our Corkscrew Hazel. The nearest id I can get is maybe they aren’t caterpillars at all but Sawfly larvae. Perhaps a knowledgeable reader out there can help..

This lovely poem by Seamus Heaney came my way today. I loved the memories it evoked of lifting sheets off the line with my Mum and folding together. We two still fold line-dried big bedding this way.

Rain, A Treat and A Posy

After a month with no rain, we have had a deluge. Over two days our wheelbarrow has filled right up and a couple of Petunia flowers from the window box have fallen in. I love these photos, especially the middle one with the autumny leaves at the bottom of the water.

After going to the library this morning we had lunch in the Redruth Buttermarket and I bought some Cinnamon Buns from Filthy Foccacia to have with our tea when our friends came round. It was wickedly scrumptious.

Friends came round this afternoon and brought us a lovely little posy of flowers from their garden.

August 30th and 31st Catch-up

Saturday August 30th
We lost our broadband on Saturday and it seems we won’t have it back for some time as there is a break in the cable underground. Our lovely neighbour is very generously letting us use hers so I can catch up with everything.

I spent much of the day baking and having a lovely time baking cakes to be sold at Roots tomorrow when it will be Apple Day. I made a Ukrainian Apple Cake and a Spiced Toffee Apple Cake.

Sunday August 31st

And then it was Apple Day! And what a day  – so many apples were chopped and pressed and juiced,  bottled and pasteurised, so many cakes were enjoyed, so much Roots Ratatouille eaten for lunch, and many Dorset buttons were made – altogether a very busy and very enjoyable day.

One of the activities available was learning how to make Dorset buttons and as regular readers will know, I love making – so I had a go and made a button of an apple tree.

Thanks to M for being such a brilliant teacher.
