1 Inspired by Veronica, I sorted all my knitting needles in Granny’s knitting needle keeper but, after after about 80 years of use, it is coming to the end of its useful life.

2 Again, inspired by Veronica’s lovely blog, I decided to make a new needle holder and spent a very happy afternoon printing off photos of things I have knitted, sticking them to a crisps tube and now have the satisfaction of this beautiful new container.

3 My maternal Granny collected green glass as well as knitting needles! One of our dahlias has been blown over by the wind so I popped it into this beautiful piece of glass.

Dahlias, green glass, and needlework tools in beautiful containers…Kindred Spirit! I love what you did with the needle holder. It’s so much fun! Grannie’s needle case belongs in a shadow box frame, displayed for all your world to see. I have many of my grandmother’s and mother’s crochet hooks put away, am considering doing that with the hooks. Hmmmm…I could add a few of mine, too…three generations of “yarnies.” You see? Your blog has inspired me already!

Lovely idea about the shadow frame – so many projects, so little time! 🙂
Isn’t it special to know that the hands of your ancestors also used these things? I love that! I have beautiful tools in my kitchen that are precious in the same way.

I have so little left from my ancestors, most of Grandmother’s things got left behind in Germany. It’s very special to still have her crochet hooks, and I still have some very old tatting thread that she used to crochet flowers with. I have the extremely tiny hook she used. My Grandmother refered to our #10 bedspread cotton as, “rope.”

Oh, I’ll never use that tatting thread. I keep it with the tiny hook. Those pieces would make it into the box frame.

Terrific idea! I will have to share that one my knitting buddies. Is that what we call here in the States “depression glass”? I like how you displayed the flower with it, it made a great photo.

I’ll post another photo of the green glass. I don’t know the term ‘depression glass’. I’ll look it up! 🙂

A friend of mine collected the Depression glassware and she said some times it was called green glass. Since then I have learned it came in clear and a rose color too I believe. I am not familiar with it other than seeing it when we go antique shopping. Most I have seen have been green.

I use Quaker Oats containers for my (unused) straight needles and my dpns, but I love your idea of decorating them. I do have an ancient vase for the unique wooden needle collection. I made fabric holders like your Grandmother’s, also for the crochet hook collection. Now I use circular needles, which really need to be hung rather than coiled. Just had a brainwave (thank you) – use my 2012 Shetland/Bath/Cornwall tour pix!! A winter project……

Sounds like a lovely project! I’m thinking a small holder like Granny’s and yours would be good for my crochet hooks – a project for me!
