Raindrops, Truro Leats and Shopping (and Robert Frost)

17 Aug

1   Raindrop like diamonds on a spider’s web.

Raindrops

2   Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved the leats in Truro, the gutters where the river flows through the city and today, in the rain, they were really flowing.

The Leats in Truro city centre

3   Shopping! I love shopping and went to my favourite shops –  the kitchen shop, the wool shop and, unusually for me , a clothes shop and  today I bought a scarf! I love scarves!

Beautiful cup cake papers

Multi-coloured wool with which to knit Sally-boots

Tiny birds on my new scarf- a woodpecker, a thrush and others I’m not sure of but it is beautiful!

and for good measure, this beautiful poem which I have been talking to another blogger,  Don, about this afternoon.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost
And, finally, a message to some lovely likers – I love to visit the blogs of those who have been kind enough to read and like one of my posts but sometimes the Gravatar leads nowhere. I learned from another blogger about the importance of putting your blog address on as a link otherwise you can’t be found so please, if you want to be liked back, do put your link up. Thank you!

This was a very beautiful one indeed, MBT – a very full one.

Those cup cake papers. You know, one thing I love about Asian art, is that they make the most beautiful TINY things, their patience, and steady hand, and focus, on creating something that albeit small, is so stunningly beautiful. These cake papers reminded me of how precious it is, when someone attends fully to something, with love.

It ALWAYS creates something, to love.

Thank you for your lovely comments. I agree about Asian art. Did you see the pictures I once posted on http://wp.me/p1Ypl6-V2 which had the most glorious detailed Asian paintings?

      Love=creation…. I like that!

      Have a good day 🙂

I’m quite fascinated by those leats. Do you know when they first started using that design? Is it only in a part of the town or is it a feature throughout?

The images are wonderful. I found the the one with the “Leats in Truro” so intriguing. Just loved the poem. That last verse sums it all up so beautifully. Thank you for the link.

The Leats are intriguing. I have never seen anything like them anywhere else. Three rivers converge in Truro and run under the city and on lots of the streets there are these little running streams. Behind some of the streets are much wider runs of water, almost like small canals but not navigable, which carry the rivers through the city. Those are lovely to walk alongside.

I’m so glad I came to your post yesterday that reminded me of that beautiful poem which has been so appreciated by so many of my readers!

Have a good weekend and enjoy the ocean! 🙂

I just find that so fascinating – just ignore the last comment. I think you covered my questions here. Do you know when they were built?

    Pictures amazing.
Love the poem as much as everyone else!
‘I doubted if I should ever come back’ – what a line, so full of sadness and dreams and yearning and yet hope……

And thanks again for all the wonderfully kind words on your visits to the zoo!
    Hugs

It’s my pleasure visiting ‘the zoo’!

I always wonder if there’s a hint of regret too, that those other ways have not been travelled as each one then leads somewhere else. I’m not one for regrets and am lucky to be very happy with the paths I have chosen.

One of my ‘untrod’ paths would have taken me, at 21, to America to study but I had just fallen in love and had found someone to travel my paths with. We are still travelling together 45 years later!

      Enjoy your weekend 🙂

It is a very beautiful poem, isn’t it? I’m so glad it’s one of your favourites too.

Have a good weekend. I’m thinking your exams are getting close so I hope your revision is going well. 🙂

Lovely post – lovely pics, – particularly the scarf, favourite poem, and finally the information about gravatar – have felt the same disappointment about not being able to go any further… and am not sure if I am also a culprit, so will look.!
So very satisfying -beauty, poetry and usefulness…

Very glad this post had all those features that pleased you!

I was also a culprit and had to go in and change it when a similar message to mine was posted some time ago.

All the best for a happy weekend 🙂

The spider web is really beautiful. You surely do have an eye for finding the beauty in the small things we see daily. It is easy to miss them.
I do not like to shop. I am sure there is an art to enjoying shopping. I have friends who always are shopping. They make a mess of all the shelves. Fingering everything and putting back in different place. LOL Of course they end up having lunch out too. That’s the part I would enjoy. 🙂

Lunch out is always the best bit!

There are only certain kinds of shopping that I love – those that feed my creative streak ie wool shops, cooking/baking shops, fabric shops – and only very occasionally clothes shops. Most of my clothes I have had for years and love!

Have a good weekend and keep that whistle handy! 🙂

It’s lovely that so many of my readers also love the Robert Frost poem. Very pleased that you like the raindrops too – so do I!

Have a good weekend too 🙂

Well okay, let’s see for starters I love this post. Your photographs and your delightful comments are colorful, beautiful and wonderful! I love yarn also. 🙂 I love Robert Frost, and this poem is one of my all time favorites by him. So I guess the best I can do here is hit the “like” button and have you imagine me humming “these are a few of my favorite things!” Although I’d rather listen to Julie Andrews sing that song. Thanks again for a wonderful post! 🙂

So glad I hit the spot with all my things today!

Thank you for your lovely comments and I will now have that tune in my head all day! Actually, it will make a nice change as I have been suffering with ear worm! ‘Ain’t No Grave’ has been going round my head all night in preparation for Sunday’s concert!

Thank you again for your support 🙂

Robert Frost lived up in the Green Mountains in the next town to me. His house is preserved, fully furnished as he left it, and we have the Robert Frost Trail for hiking and skiing.

Your yarn and cupcake cups match!

How interesting! I’d love to visit his house as I would love to visit Dylan Thomas’s place in Laugharne. There’s more possibility of that, I think.

Do you know, I hadn’t noticed the matching colours until I was looking at my photos!

      Cheers 🙂

So glad you liked the cobweb. It had gone when we got home from Truro so I was really pleased I had stopped to take the photos first thing. Cheers 🙂
