Baby Teethers, Knitting and A Pink Sky

Today is the birthday of one of my twins, born just before midnight and just 9 minutes before his sister. I still have their teething toys after all these years.

I had a special knitting order from Littlest Live-wire for some new leg warmers and I finished them today, made with rainbow wool so that they will go with any outfit.

Tonight’s sky was a very beautiful and bright pink that lasted only a few minutes. I was in the right place at the right time.

Last Night’s Sunset, White Poppy and Coorie Doon

1   We are about 10 miles from the North coast of Cornwall where the most beautiful sunsets can be seen as the sun slips into the sea. We knew last night’s was a lovely one as the setting sun lights up the windows of a small terrace that we can see from our front window.

2   From the back window this morning, I spotted that a white poppy has opened. I took this from indoors and will get a better shot when the rain and wind stop. For June 1st it is very cool – the horses in the back field all have their coats on again!

3     We are learning this beautiful lullaby at choir. Coorie Doon (miners’ lullaby) written and sung here by Matt McGinn. Coorie Doon has two meanings. Firstly it means ‘snuggle down’ as he is suggesting to his child. Later, he is using the term to say this is what he does when he is down the coal mine  – he is ‘crouching down’ in the dark, the dust and damp as he earns his living – “we must hae oor heat, oor light,/ Oor fire and oor lamp.”

Weekly Photo Challenge – Blur 2

Last night’s sunset was utterly amazing – the sky seemed to be on fire. After taking some conventional photos, I decided to move the camera and see if I could get some interesting blurry photos. Here are a couple and then the sunset itself. Click on any photo for the caption and more detail. For others in this Challenge, click here.

Guest Post from Hawai’i No 1

Being on crutches makes it quite hard to take photos! My beautiful sister who lives on Big Island, Hawai’i , is sending me photos so that you and I don’t miss out on beautiful things. Here is the first one she has sent for us all to enjoy. Isn’t it absolutely glorious?

Gizmo, Lizbeth and A Sunset

1    After breakfast in London, we left that part of the family and went for a delicious lunch with Daughter No 1 on our way home. We were able to meet her beautiful Maine Coon kittens, just ten months and so very big and furry! Here is Gizmo who totally fills their basket. Just look at his furry ears and ruff.

2   Lizbeth is smaller and daintier but still big compared with most kittens of ten months. You can see how she is smaller than Gizmo in the basket but even so she fills the seat of an ordinary dining chair!  Maine Coons can grow to weigh 22lbs!

3   Tonight’s sunset was glorious and, driving West to come home, we were able to appreciate its beauty for ages.

Beach, Butterfly and Sunset

1. We spent the morning on Oneloa, Big Beach, at Makena and loved the colours, people watching and just sitting under the umbrella in the warmth.

2. Beautiful yellow butterflies fluttered by on their way to the purple flowers behind us. There were dragonflies too but I couldn’t catch one on camera

Allotment Produce, Sunset and Seagulls

1   Our lovely neighbour has brought round some of her beautiful produce from their allotment. We swapped it all for some Strawberry Freezer Jam! There’s Rhubarb for Different-every-time Pudding, Beetroot for Chocolate Beetroot Cake, an enormous courgette for delicious Courgette Soup and two small courgettes for Lemony Courgettes tonight along with the Curly Kale for supper. Thank you!

Sun, Penzance and Optimism

1    When we collected my brother from Newquay Airport just over two weeks ago there was the most beautiful sunset. Today, as we took him back to go home to Munich, there was a pretty sunrise and now it’s all quiet again and we are catching upon all the things that stood still while we enjoyed time together.

2   We went to Penzance this afternoon for the Literary Festival and a talk,  ‘Sailing round Cornwall’ by our good friend, Sue Kittow which we thoroughly enjoyed. The town was full of flags for the various summer festivals.

3    One of my young friends sent me this some time ago and I missed. G.S., you were right! I love it!
