Hannah Senesh, Parents and Grandchildren

1 Joined a Facebook conversation with L, a lovely ex-pupil of mine, today about the loss of our Mums and how we still miss them, however long it’s been and how they still influence our lives. Then I remembered this quotation I once found and kept – I think we each have our own stars.

“There are stars whose radiance is visible on Earth though they have long been extinct. There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world though they are no longer among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark. They light the way for humankind.” Hannah Senesh, poet, playwright, and paratrooper (1921-1944)  It’s worth looking her up – a quite amazing young woman.

2  M brought back the tapes of my Dad’s life stories which she has digitised for me. I’m both excited and nervous about listening to them. She has very kindly made copies for my two brothers and my sister.

3  Delightful Skype with KJ and the Grandbabies, lots of chuckles and happiness.

Blossom, Raised Beds and Welsh Snowdrops + Senegalese Wedding

1  On my walk down into Redruth today, this beautiful blossom took my breath away.

2   Mr S has cleared the patch for the new terrace and spread compost on the raised beds, ready for vegetable planting quite soon.

3  Lovely friends brought us some more snowdrops from their place in Wales.

4   + a little extra! Just had over an hour with Daniel on Skype talking about the wedding and all the things we need to know about before we go to Senegal. I have to send my measurements to Ami so that she can get my wedding outfit made up for me before we arrive! It was Ndeye Marie’s 4th  birthday last week and Daniel sent some photos while we were chatting.

John’s Pond, New Skirting Boards and Dingboche

1  Spring has come to John’s pond! What a delightful picture to lift the spirits. Thanks, John.

Busy frogs in John's pond

2   Mr S has been fitting new skirting boards in our sun room and I’ve been following behind painting on the primer. It’s beginning to look really good in shades of white. The sun streams in here (when it shines at all) and it is a lovely room to bird watch from.

3   When we Skyped with 3 year old Jake this evening we told him that Lucy had reached Dingboche at 14,500ft. He told us that rain comes from the clouds and that if the sun’s there as well there’ll be a rainbow. Tabitha kept us amused by doing somersaults off the settee and we managed a word or two with KJ.

Cornish Beaches, Beautiful Bark and Skype to Senegal

1  Each Saturday I read, “What You Like” where Guardian Weekend readers share their finds of the week and came upon this treasure:     http://manonabeach.com/  Do have a look – it’s all about Cornish beaches and why people love them.

2  On our walk today, rather dull and cold, I found this beautiful bark covered with lichen and moss and found sun-rays streaming through the clouds.

3  Skyped with Ami in Senegal and Daniel in Barcelona on a conference call! My French is improving as vocabulary comes back (and I had my Collins Roberts to hand) and Ami’s English is coming on really well so we do manage to communicate.

Truro Cathedral,Hospital Visit and Skype

1 Singing with the Three Choirs in Truro Cathedral was such a lovely experience! The acoustics were amazing and the audience really responsive.

We sang in Truro Cathedral

2  Visiting my friend in hospital was good because she was feeling so much better and expects to be allowed home on Monday. (Update -S did go home only to be re-admitted that night and has been in for 6 weeks)

3  Skype with the GrandBabies was lovely as always though Jake was far too busy to stop  and talk to us! It’s just fun to be able to see him playing in the background while we talk to KJ. Tabitha clapped with delight when she realised we were there on the screen!

Trelissick, Raymond Blanc and Skype 28th Jan 2012

1  We went to Trelissick this afternoon, compensation  for missing a Penzance outing this morning as we were helping Lucy get ready for her trek training on Dartmoor.

2  I love this quotation – “I like a chef who smiles out loud when he tastes his own food” and was reminded of it when I heard Raymond Blanc talking on Radio 4 this evening. What a lovely man he is!

3  Skype with KJ and the Grandbabies – always a delight.

Suitcases Singing Again, Hip Happiness and Skype

1  It was so good to get back to singing again and even Claire asking us to dance did not dim my enjoyment! I knew I’d been missing the singing and my singing friends but hadn’t realised quite how much!

2  I saw my hip man this afternoon and he thinks I can put off the replacements indefinitely but says I can ask to see him whenever I want to, if I’m in pain again, and he’ll see me quickly and look after me. It was Joe the osteopath who fixed my hips last June – magic!

3  We Skyped briefly with Daniel and Ami and began to discuss wedding arrangements but we’ve lost the signal from Senegal. The photo is of our beautiful soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Ami.

Singing, Spiced carrot cakes and Skype

1  Fabulous singing session with Claire this morning – so uplifting. It cured a headache and a touch of the blues. Just the best therapy ever.

2  The Spiced apple cakes went down well this morning; some people said, ‘Thank you,’ which was lovely.

3  Skype with the Grandchildren is such a lot of fun, just to watch Jake playing and Tabitha reacting is a delight and we get to chat with KJ.
