Happy Cake, First Class Post and Curried Cauliflower Soup

1   A seasonal cook-up today! First a beautiful cake, Plum, Almond (should be hazelnuts) and Chocolate Cake, that came to me via the BBC Good Food site today. I couldn’t resist it! My version is full of the amino acid tryptophan which helps to make us happy! There are ground almonds, almond slivers and lots of good dark chocolate, all good sources of tryptophan hence its new name of Happy Cake.

Doesn’t that look delicious?

And it is!

2   While the cake was cooling and waiting for its glaze, we went to the Post Office to post off the two hoodies by the fastest post possible though I could hardly bear to part with them. If the hoodies themselves don’t keep the Grandbabies warm, then the love they’ve been made with will surely do the trick.

3   While we were out we found big Cornish cauliflowers at a good price so I have made an enormous batch of Curried Cauliflower Soup, one of our favourites for cold winter days: 3 pints in the freezer and one for tomorrow. Two servings go very nicely into a one pint milk carton and they stack really neatly in the freezer.

I’ll put both recipes up soon.

I can’t post large photos at the moment, they stretch and go out of proportion so these are all medium. Do click on each one for the large version.

Blue Makes Me Happy – Sea, Sky and Other Blue Things (Weekly photo challenge)

1 This morning the sea on the horizon as seen from our bedroom was a really deep blue.

2 Driving to Truro, this beautiful sky opened up as we turned a corner.

3 Such a bright and beautiful blue sky with the spires of Truro Cathedral lit up by the sun – just lovely.

I’m trying out the new gallery format here. What do you think? Somehow all the photos are below as well so you have a good comparison!

Fungi, Baby Naming and Singing with The Briefcases

1   Waiting to do the Baby naming, I was wandering around Potager Gardens and spotted this very beautiful fungi on the woodpile wall. Just look at those patterns. Click to make any photo bigger. Do any of my readers know what kind of fungus this is?

2   The Baby Naming Ceremony was truly beautiful and enjoyed by all – even though there were also some tears.

Lowen and her Mum

The Cornish name Lowen means Happy. What a lovely gift to give to your child. I wore my happyboots that my Sister had made for me in Prescott, Arizona. They are my special boots for Baby Namings.

3   Just 10 of the Suitcase Singers went to Tremough University to take part in a concert of various local choirs. Tonight we were the Briefcases as we are such a small version of the whole Suitcases choir. Some of us were very nervous but it went well and we were well received.
