We went for an early morning walk with my camera.
Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar1 Sitting looking at our one year old Malus, I was thinking how few leaves there were and that at the top there was a rather strange leaf. On closer inspection I found an enormous caterpillar, very beautiful in his own way but I’m not happy that he is demolishing the Crab Apple! I think it’s a Hawk moth caterpillar.
2 My Granny used to keep this little steel mirror in her handbag and, as a little girl, I was allowed to get it out now and again. I loved the painted side . The other side is just plain.
3 Tonight, some of us went to meet Cor Serenata, the choir from Port Talbot with whom we are doing a concert tomorrow night. It was a delightful evening with them singing in the garden of the hotel and being much appreciated by the other guests. You can still get tickets for the concert at St Andrew’s Church in Redruth if you are a local! (from me or from the Health Food Shop in town) . There was a beautiful sunset to be seen from the hotel lawn while they were singing.
1 On this gloriously sunny day we went to visit friends for a Pool Party! The sun lit up the surface of the water and made a lovely turtle shaped shadow.
2 There was a nest of swallows in their shed and the babies were just getting ready to fly. Just before we arrived there were five babies lined up on the beam. When we went in to look, one little baby was clinging to the wall and another was still in the nest but all the others seemed to have flown out into the sunshine to join their parents.
3 Some very beautiful and voracious Mullein Moth caterpillars were devouring Scrophularia nodosa – there was hardly a leaf to be seen, just a few flowers left. There were at least a dozen on each plant, very busily munching away.
All these were seen in two cafe gardens where we stopped off for a drink on the long coach journey between Chitwan National Park and Pokhara. If anyone can help me to identify them I would be absolutely delighted!
